So I went to the wreckers today, me and my sledge hammer. Spent some time knocking out what looked liked brand new wheel studs. I spent most of my time in the ford section. I also brought with me, my digital caliper. The very first vehicle I tried was the Taurus. Man that is a giant stud. 56 mm long. The taper is .534 inches and the knurl diameter is .553 Didn't fit my top plate. So I tried the focus/escort of various years 90's to 00's.. I didn't measure te length, but they look a tad bit longer than stock top plate length. The knurl diameter was .536 They fit. (Top plate hole measured ~ .533) they will press in. So I got to looking around at other stuff. I saw a dodge caravan (rofl that I scooped the headlight bulbs out of) the stud looked like it was like an 1 3/4" long. I didn't measure it, but after knocking it out and trying it in my top plate, I would say it is a SnugIsh fit, weld in for sure. Then there was the trailblazer... Fml. Two inch long studs. Also a weld in fit, felt like there was 10 thousands slop in the top plate tho. Why would you need a 2 inch Long top plate stud, I dunno. The chev was there, and so was my hammer. So I hit it. Other vehicles I tried were (no fits): Various Lincoln's Mercury cougar Towncar Mustang Probe Liberty (we have massive studs by comparison FYI) Ranger. Checking out at the counter, buddy asked what I was paying for. I told him I had three heaping pockets of wheel studs from different vehicles. He charged me ten bucks. I took some pictures while I was out. You guys lemme know if you want pics of vehicles and stud comparisons. |

Forgot to mention, I tried a 97 Taurus, v8, m12x1.5 stud from a dealership (which are discontinued item btw) and the shoulder didn't even make it through the plate, let alone the knurl. |

Instead of all that trouble, just use some 7/16 grade 8 bolts with a tack weld. Its pretty much the same thing JBA uses on his coilovers. |

Oh. From the picture I saw he used some button heads. If it were me, making the strut mount. I would grab 10.9, m12x1.5x55 button heads, then tap the plate and thread the button head through. Done. The stock nuts are metric. I dunno... I am still recovering from kk diff swap. |

Boom 4". And i could still go up a little more. And the studs, it dosent matter if they are metric or standard, button head, allen head, or hex head. Its not being threaded into the body, all it does is slide in and gets bolted down. |

Well I tried pressing 97 Taurus v8 studs, brand new, from a dealership, into my moog top plate (in prep to ditch the daystar) and they were too big. By about ~.040" . That's almost a 1/16 of an inch. Sure I could plowed them in there for all it's worth, but it would have buggered the top plate. |

When I tried my daystar top plate thinger, the studs were supposed to be press fit into the new one... Daystar QA must have taken the day off... The were sloppier than... Use your imagination. So I welded em in. Now I need new bolts/studs. I got a total of 24 studs from my trip to the wreckers. |

Could be. Then if that is the case. The title of this thread is wrong. |
