| Post subject: | Weird Tail Light Problem |
So I was leaving work today and a co-worker called me to let me know both of my brake lights were not working but the top center was. I pulled over and checked if my running lights worked and they both did. So I drove home flipping on the running lights whenever I put on the brakes. I didn't think it was a big deal so I swung by the parts shop and grab two LED tail lights. After installing them both is when it got weird. Now both brake lights work but only the drivers side running light... The socket wasn't in the best of shape, looking pretty burnt so I thought that could be the issue. I tried switching them and same issue. Both works on the drivers side but only brake light on the passenger. I then proceed to switch out the sockets with the revers light sockets producing mixed results (nothing made it better one socket made the drivers side only have brake lights so it went back to the revers light position). I thought made it was a dud LED bulb so I switch them and had same results. Still thinking it could be a socket I went back to the parts shop to get a new one which was a total POS and only did brake light on both sides. I don't have a multimeter and am guessing I just need to fork up and buy one. The thing that really has me confused is that both running light worked on my way home and when I went to switch the bulbs out. I don't see how it could be a warring thing if it switch from brake light not working to running light not working. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Probably irrelevant since it's just a tail light but I have a 2006 Liberty CRD |

Unplug everything and clean it for good measure. Then while it is apart use paper clips as test leads and a known good 12v bulb as a tester. |

Buy yourself a simple 12v test light. It is one of the handist and best tools to have when working on simple 12v electrical problems. They can also be used to test for a bad or weak ground. They are available at any auto parts store... |
