| Post subject: | OME spring selection |
I have a 2005 KJ 4x4 that has been my wife's daily driver since new. At about 30k miles we did a 1/4" clevis lift and added a couple spring isolators in the rear. We have been running BFG 245/70-16 since then. A year or so ago we added an ARB front bumper and its weight has taken it's toll in the front suspension and it's time to upgrade. I have decided to use Bilstein struts due to my experience with them on other vehicles. I have only found good reviews of OME springs and plan to use them to replace my tired stock springs. I have searched the site and read the tacked threads and still I'm not sure what spring to choose. My first thought was to choose OME 790 springs but I drive 2 diesel trucks and "bigger must be better" is often my first thought when it comes to weight capacity. My concern is raising the front too high. I'm not looking for a lift really. We were happy with the clevis lift and stock bumper. The OME springs are advertised as providing 1 1/2" lift add that would be great but I also see lift kits using these springs and claiming 3 1/2". That would be a problem. There is only the slightest chance a winch would be added to the bumper. I don't plan on swapping rear springs, only replacing the original shocks. I don't want the KJ nose high. What springs should I use? How much lift will there be? Thanks for reading and any help you may offer, MBanning |

OME 927s will lift the KJ 2.5 inches ( other posts you have read also include clevis lift and top plate to reach 3.5 inches OME 927s would work well with the ARB alone, add a winch and I'd go 790s ( I had a ARB on mine for 8 years and ran 927s for 100,000 then went to the 790s for 60,000 then the JBA adjustable coilovers ) But 927s are rated at 400 lbs , stock is 310, 790s are 500 lb springs and you'll know they are heavy duty for sure But with that bumper I would not go any less than the 927s NOW with that said the Ironman makes a good spring which I've also tested and ran for a while, their HD spring will work with the ARB and gives you 2.25 inches of lift This is also assuming you have a gasser and not a CRD Any upgrades I would also do the rear since the springs and shocks have to be toast as well Bilstein makes a good shock , Ironman are a little bit longer for front shocks than Bilstein or OME Check www.jeepinbyal.com |

I installed load range "C" (JEEP014-C) Ironman springs front and rear (JEEP015B) along with Bilstein shocks. They are very good springs and I am super satisfied with their performance. The combo actually rides and handles better than the OEM parts. Plus price was less than the OME springs. Got them from JBL, best price.... Running 245's with no contact or trimming required... http://jeepinbyal.com/liberty-2002-2007-kj/lift-kits-jeep-liberty/kj-ironman-1-5-spring-lift-kit-hd.html |
