I just bought a black 2004 Liberty KJ 4x4 Limited with 70k miles. It's stock everything and I came across a picture of a Jeep I'd love to work towards getting mine to look like. He may be a user on here but I can't find him again. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() http://jeepspace.jeepforum.com/crsraider I want that lift and those tires. In the Jeep Space link, he says he has a 3.5" Rough Country Lift. I don't plan on off-roading as I'm a college student and can't afford things breaking so I'm shooting only for aesthetics. My question is: Is the Rough Country lift a good one or is there an alternative that will better suit my needs? |

I remember seeing that KJ, don't remember where though. You can still wheel as a college student, most of us do. Anyways, how high do you really want to go? Most people go with OME, Ironman or JBA. The rest don't hold up as long nor do they ride as nice. |

Ya definitely saw that KJ in the past...either here or the Jeepforum or jeepkj.com. As far as lifts go, everyone in the KJ community will tell you to get either OME or Ironman lifts...or if you have the money the JBA coilovers. Basically expect to spend about $1000 to get a decent lift that doesn't ride like crap and sag after a year. Add new tires to that and you will easily spend over $2000 when all is said and done. Figure you need new shocks all the way around (bilstein, OME or ironman), springs (OME or Ironman), front and rear bumpstops, extra rear isolators, spacer plate for the front if you want more lift, new upper control arms if you go over 3" lift.....be prepared to spend...took me a year to save and buy parts here and there to put my lift together. |

DO NOT, repeat DO NOT go with any type of spacer lift Do it right , 99 out of 100 people who go spacer lifts swap out within a month or so due to crappy ride and handling |

Listen to ol Tom, he offers good advice, he is the subject matter expert on this forum when it comes to any questions concerning suspension modifications, lifts, etc. Lifting a KJ is not something that can be done cheap and get safe handling characteristics along with a quality ride. Do it right the first time, it will cost you a lot less in the long run. Many on this forum if you read, that have tried the cheap lifts ended up removing them and replacing with a quality lift like Ironman, OME, or coilovers from JBL... Personally I am running the Ironman "C" springs and Bilstein shocks with 1/2 inch clevis spacer and 245x75 AT tires. Rides and handles great; much better than it did with the OEM parts... |

WhitbyKJ wrote: Worry not. Soon I will crack the code and make lifting easy and affordable for all! Have never understood that statement saying lifting a KJ is expensive and hard to do. Have I missed something over the past 10.5 years ? For me I'd rather install a lift on a KJ any day compared to say an XJ ( have done about 19 or 20 of them back years ago and most recently Wildmans XJ) I've lifted a lot of different 4X4s over the years and no matter what, it is it costs money unless you're just throwing parts from a junk yard together. Sure you see lifts for a say TJ cheap, but they are cheap lifts, compare quality lifts and it all comes out about the same price. OME for a Jeep TJ Unlimited 04-06, 949.00 99-03 Grand Cherokee 939.00 If comparing adjustable coilovers, I was looking at the GenRight ELITE Coilover Suspension Package for the Jeep Wrangler TJ the other day since I was approached to install one, Price $7,199.99. Yes this guy loves his TJ that much and is continually doing upgrades just like we do out KJs. So I guess I'm out of the loop anymore and missing something when it comes to lifting a KJ or KK Of course anything can be made cheap, look at Yugos |

Looks can be deceiving while it may look good ride quality and handling leave a lot to be desired Personally I won't install any spacer style lifts, we only install full spring and want people happy after they drive down the road
