Post subject:  Replacing radiator questions

I need to replace my radiator.

1) Do I have to remove the rivets that secure the hood latch mechanism? Is there a way to replace the radiator without removing those rivets?

2) Does the transmission radiator need removed as well, or is it not in the way?

3) Any recommendations on a new radiator? MOPAR or something else?

Thanks.

1) I never do, i just unbolt the cross brace and unbolt the hood latch holder from the unibody, then just set it off to the side.

2) All of mine use the radiator as the tranny cooler from the factory, so cant tell ya.

3) most say Mopar. I have had 2 mopar radiators in my 06 and both lasted less than a year. Im now running a specture (spelling?) from autozone, been over a year now. My 02 also has the specture that I replaced with a mopar that went out on less than 2 years.......my 04 has had the specture since 2009 and no problems.

BUT.......Usally the plastic tank comes loose at the aluminum coils when they do go out.

Holy crap, dude. What are you doing to your radiators? My original one lasted ten years. :D

Thank you for the response. It did seem like I should be to unbolt the latch, but since so many sources say that the rivets must be removed, I wasn't sure if I was missing something.

Combo of texas heat and offroading.

Granted the one in my 06 lasted for a long time, around 6 years or so. My 04 got a huge rock thrown from a truck, so thats what happened to it that time.

Also use HOAT coolant

Buddys 03 radiator lasted 10 years and over 200,000 miles
Then pinhole leak like the rest
tried cheap with lifetime warranty
after the 11th one he finally went back to MOPAR and no more issues
sure he had the warranty but everytime you lose so much antifreeze, time to swap out etc got old quick

My radiator cools the engine only. It came from the factory that way. To remove it I have to unbolt the ac condenser from the rad and pop loose the tranny cooler and ps cooler.

Unbolting the crossbrace is the easiest way. It also makes removing the shroud a snap.
