Two weeks ago I replaced both my UCA's with brand new MOOG units. Both upper ball joints were shot and making noise. Two weeks after replacement the Jeep was making no weird noises, and riding very nice. Then at work I drove over a bit of a rough patch (nothing I would have hesitated driving over before) and there was a noise after. It almost sounds like something is binding up a little bit and letting go, and making a snapping/popping noise. It does not always do it - it only seems to happen when I brake hard, and the weight shifts towards the front, or when I accelerate hard, and the weight shifts to the back. Most prominently, it makes the noise when reversing either direction with the wheel cranked all the way. 4x4 on or off does not make a difference.
It's definitely coming from the front driver side, and I was able to push down on the Jeep in that corner while holding the UCA and make the noise. I can feel the popping/snapping in the UCA, but it could be resonating from anything I suppose. I loosened the two UCA to frame bolts, and UCA to steering knuckle bolt and re-torqued everything just to make sure something wasn't over tightened or too loose. The noise is still there.
I've looked at everything I can see, and nothing appears to be damaged. I have no idea what's making this noise and it's driving me nuts. Could the brand new UCA possible have a bad bushing already? Anyways, thanks in advance for the help.
