Post subject:  Heater core replacement

06 Liberty limited 86,000 miles

Christmas came to me in the form of my wife's jeep needing a heater core. Symptoms I've noticed are vents smell of antifreeze when heat is on and passenger floor area stinks of antifreeze even with car off, I can't find any wet carpet or external links.

I've got the factory manual, I couldn't find any how to's or pictures on the net

My question is, is there anything else I should replace or investigate while I'm that deep into the dash? Currently everything works fine.

I don't think there's anything else in there that fails commonly, but I could be wrong. I have been wondering for a long time if there is a shortcut, like a cut and hack shortcut. Basically, I wonder if you can hack your way in to change the core by removing the glove box, and do some minimal damage that won't show, or won't look too bad. Removing the dash was a nightmare when I did it, but I wasn't following any manual. Maybe I made it more that it should have been.

Oh, the clock spring. I would seriously think about replacing that if you need to pull the steering wheel, as they do wear out. I was parting a KJ, so I didn't have the pleasure of reassembly.
