Hello all,

My '05 Liberty CRD has had a vibration in the front end for a while. Lazy me I have finally opened up the beast and found that output shaft on the passenger side has failed. I don't know if the CV joint caused the wear or what but the output shaft has a severe taper on it now.

I have a front axle from another CRD so that is relief.

Any pointers on making this switch out or repair is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Just buy another intermediate shaft and a new CV and you're good
Not a big deal since it happens to everyone if they don't check them often
Rust etc gets in there and wears / rusts everything
That shaft just pops out, retaining clip holds it in

Tom,

Thank you for the reply.
I have the intermediate shaft and a CV axle. Is there a secret to getting the retaining clip to compress enough to allow the shaft to slide into the pinion gear? I'm using a intermediate shaft and cv axle from another KJ that I parted out. The CV axle and shaft is stuck together and will not break apart. We have PB blaster-ed it and beat them fool out of it with zero success in getting them to separate

I removed the c clip and the shaft slides in as pretty as you please. The clip is the issue. I talked to one shop and he said leave it out. and drive. "The front end assembly will hold everything together."

Thanks,

Tom

hey Tom,
If the ones you are using are stuck together I'd say they are either already toast or will be soon
Just know that going in
You can run with out the clip BUT would check it closely ever now and again

When my intermediate shaft did that, the bushing(bearing) and seal were shot too. It would be wise to change them now - both sides.

FWIW, OE is a plastic bushing. Dana/Spicer replacement is a caged needle bearing.
