I currently own a lifted and modified 1996 Jeep Cherokee , but I'm looking for a Liberty. I found a 2002 that looks great but had over 220,000 miles. I'm asking you experienced Liberty owners: how high is too high? The plan is a vehicle that is a little daily driver friendly and can do some mild off-road. |

I have a 2002 Limited with the 3.7 and have 210,000 miles and it still runs strong. Only thing I've had to replace was the water pump and AC compressor. |

Here is my five cent answer for what it's worth. That is a bunch of miles and it depends on the price they are asking as far as I am concerned . But what is going to make a huge difference is how well it has been taken care of. They have had it this long, why not just keep it? I have two Jeep liberty's, a gold one and a white one. The gold one has 156,000 miles on it, the white one has 142,000 miles on it. The gold one is in super condition. I can tell the car has been taken care of just by the little signs, The transmission fluid is nice and pink, The heat works good etc. the car drives nice. The white one on the other hand is literally falling apart. The heater is blowing out lukewarm air, The car rattles and shakes as it goes down the road. The engine has a misfire. The car is just generally more dirty than the other one even though I keep them both detailed. My ultimate answer is how well the vehicle has been taken care of by the previous owner. There are many reports of people putting over 300,000 miles on their liberties with little to no repairs done. And then I see other people having them blowup at 180,000 or less miles. If I was to buy another one, I would go through it with a fine tooth comb to give me a better perspective on what I might expect as far as future repairs go |
