I sent you a PM a few weeks ago, I don't know if you ever got it, but I'm flipping between just trying to put it to above stock height with a 1.5" JBA spring replacement, (and trying to figure out which assembly tricks plus parts I need to make the tricks work), and going with the 2-1/2" lift Silver package you reviewed on the JBA site.
Part of my PM was to inquire whether you do installs like this anymore, as nobody in my (new to me) home area knows anything about these little tractors or what would be involved.
I don't expect much off-roading anymore, but I want to keep it capable on road with sane parts replacement for safety, and ride/load-carrying in mind. Tires would stay in the stock to slightly larger range of road tires for mileage with weather ( rain/snow) in mind. I'm not looking to do surgery to the body to fit stuff like the Gumbo Monster Mudders and TSLs I used to run on my old Power Wagons back in the day.
Regarding the 2-1/2" Silver package, I'm leaning that way for an engineered package that gives me a little lift for slightly larger tires, even though that would hurt my mileage somewhat, but I'm not really looking to chase the parts-swapping dragon of bigger/Bigger/BIGGER anymore. I'd be looking more towards a decent, safe and comfortable ride in the CRD on tires that fit the Jeep's new stance, and improved comfort and reliability. That was one big part of your review that has me looking hard at the Silver package. Yeah, I admit that I'd also like a little additional visual zing to the Jeep, and a little height would be nice from that point of view, which is another point in the Silver package column. I don't want a ride height that needs big tires and regearing to keep it from looking foolish, either, so I have to get that figured in, too.
I'm additionally looking for a package that goes together right the first time, doesn't require design/fabrication/cutting/welding on this end, and doesn't have to be fussed with all the time with constant adjustment and parts replacements. I don't want to have to worry about my inspector or insurance company asking me why I thought hockey pucks and rubber mallets grafted into the suspension would allow me to expect insurance coverage in the case of a claim needing to be made, either.
Mass: I like the looks and function of the front bumper, but I'm not ever going to put a winch on 'er, so the CRD weight is all I have to build it for.
I don't have a roof rack either, and I tend to drive empty of gear unless I'm actually hauling stuff to or from home, so no camping/off-road-clubs/etc in my future.
Yeah I got the ARB after my wife hit a dear and tore apart the front end. I figured I might as well get it and use some of the insurance toward it instead of an OEM bumper.
That said, its really not that heavy without a winch. I can easily lift it off the front of the Jeep myself. Based on my experience I would say go with the OME 790's anyways if you decide to go that route. The ride is a bit stiffer than stock but its much more controlled and, I would argue, safe. My jeep handles much better with all this lift and 265/70-16 duratracs than it ever did on the stock suspension/stock tires.
I also debated about the JBA Coils. I was not ready to drop that much on my jeep yet, but when the OME's start to wear out I still may buy the coils and rear shocks as replacements.
go with what Tommudd says, he knows. I just wanted to show another configuration for comparison.
