Post subject:  compressor replacement Questions

So the compressor clutch went bad And I want to replace the compressor. Ive decided to buy a kit which includes
Compressor & Clutch
Receiver Drier / Accumulator
Expansion Valve / Orifice Tube / Liquid Line /w Orifice Tube
8 oz bottle of PAG Oil
Seal Kit
Looks straight forward I do have a couple of questions if someone can answer them.
So after I get the lines evacuated by a mechanic shop, I can replace the parts and seals.

1. From what Im reading: I measure the oil that was in the old compressor when I drain it and pour that amount into the new compressor. If I dont get a good measurement, How much oil is suppose to add to the compressor? Which orifice do I add the oil in?

2.After I replace the accumulator what orifice do I add the PAG oil ( haynes manual says 3 oz?

After all this is done Im taking it back to a mechanic to have the system evacuated and refilled.
When I do this, Am I able to drive to the mechanic? Am I correct in assuming as long as I dont turn on the ac everything will be ok?

Thanks in advance

If you only need just a compressor clutch, why replace the whole compressor? Replacing just a clutch does not involve all the other operations you listed nor the concerns brought on by exposing the system to atmosphere!

But to answer your questions:
If you take your vehicle to a good mechanic that has the proper AC equipment, they can evacuate all the current freon out of your system instead of dumping it to atmosphere which is bad for the environment. An AC recovery machine will filter and store the freon for future reuse!
As to the Pag oil; a good AC mechanic will know how to put the oil into the system when charging.
If you install all a new compressor and all those other parts listed, you can drive it to a good AC mechanic shop as the system will be discharged and the low pressure switch will not allow the compressor clutch to energize...

I heard that changing the clutch and bearing was pretty difficult, but after looking at a couple of videos, It doesnt look too difficult. To be honest I dont think the bearing even needs replacement. But Ill have to look at it closer. Thanks for the info
