| Post subject: | removing front bumpber cover |
I am getting ready to install my front tow hooks and mount 2 off road lights on the top bumpber cover. I need to remove the bumpber to do the tow hooks. How hard is it to remove this? Any one have pictures or can kinda explain what PAIN I am about to endure here Thanks guys |

I take mine out this weekend (is still out), it wasn't so easy, i broke the right turn signal connector, and there are three locks at each side that really piss me off because you have to press really hard by the inside, but my hand can't get it, so i have to press it by the outside this was the time consuming task, other than that, every thing is easy, 8 rivets you have to buy, 5 each so 40 bucks for 8 plastic rivets!! if you need photos let me now to take some. I just reused the rivets, you should be able to get away with it a few times. |

The upper rivets along the grill are reusable. I had to drill out the ones underneath. There are clips along the wheel flare. These clips are difficult to get out. I managed to save mine, but I don't the tight fit they once had. You will have a bit of a challenge with the lights. I drilled up through the bumper underneath the tow hooks. I had to partially install the bumper cover and put the lights on before putting the tow hooks on. Let me know if you have any other questions. I have done this before and then took it all apart to replace the tow hooks with a front hitch. |

Some have done it without removing the bumper cover. I don't know if it is an 02 thing or all KJ also If i can remember there is a wright up about how to drill the hole from top and take an extention and reach up with the nut for the lites that's how I did it. you still have to remove the tow hooks but you can leave the u bolt in just put the nuts back so you don't push it up by mistake. |

I know for the 05 and 06 it was a breeze. there was like 1 bolt by each headlight, take out the signal lights and 2 bolts underneath by the plastic valance or flaring. and thats it. pops right off |

"40 bucks for 8 plastic rivets" From the dealer the price is crazy like that. I doubt you have a Napa there, but seems like you should have some luck trying to order some froms auto parts store. It's sad looking with the bumper off but it kind of motivates you to hurry up and finish just so it'll look normal again.
On my 03 I originally put the tow hooks in without removing the bumper. Just snake in the m bolts and take forever to tighten the bolts since you have to do little baby clicks because you don't have enough room for a full swing of the ratchet. Had no choice this time with the receiver hitch so I had to take it off. |

yea it does look freaking sad with out the bumpber. This would be a speedy job....LOL I have NAPA stores around me. I was told that if you take the time and care of removing the rivits, you could re use them... |

Just pull the center pin of the rivet out as far as it extends with a screw driver and then yank the entire rivet out by the rivet body with a pair of pliers. Follow the reverse for putting it back in. |
