| Post subject: | ARB Bumper and winch |
I have decided to put a new bumper and winch mount on my 06 Sport. Looking at the ARB to go along with an 8000 lb Warn that I already have. I am concerned about the additional weight. I had thought of a Franken Lift as they seem to be the best out there but are they good enough? I don't like screwing with things. I want to do it once and forget it. Am I better off with a receiver hitch for the winch to remove the extra weight? Better off with another suspension stiffener? Some advice? Oh, no hard 4 wheeling but lots of miles on dirt roads and muddy trails to Lakes in BC. |

Either way spend the money and get a Frankenlift with the OME struts and HD springs. All the vets here have tried and tested everything out there. and all say FL is the way to go. my .02 |

Thanks for the quick reply. I read on another thread that after a period of time, around a year or less the springs start to sag and more lift is required. Am I misreading or is this a one off event. The money for both is not a problem. I just want a hassle free rig. |

Well hassle free is gonna depend on how you drive or wheel your jeep. From what I heard as far as the strength up front. the OME struts are better than the Rancho's and the OME HD springs or stock CRD springs are better suited for the weight. |

Then why would you want or need a winch my good man ? Why not spend the winch money & put it towards a rear ARB locker ? that way you probably wouldnt get in trouble in the 1st place ? (that's my reasoning for getting a rear locker!) + the fact you'll enjoy its usage & what it can do for you. |

If you are wheeling lightly and only occasionally, I would go for a front hitch or bumper w/ receiver and only take the winch along when you need it to keep the weight off the front end. It also sounds like you will be on muddy trails? Another good reason to go w/ a portable winch so you can move it to the rear in case your best winch point ends up being behind you when you are stuck in a mud hole. |

I'm not going off road occasionally but 3-4 times a week. My Liberty will not see pavement for 3-4 more months. Washboard roads and tracks. I think your point is good though about the removable winch. Perhaps a bull Bar and receiver hitch instead. I should point out I have the CRD and tow a 600 pound utility/camping trailer occasionally also. |

I'm with JJsKJ. Go for the front and rear hitch setup, and leave yourself the freedom to move the winch where it needs to be. You won't get a bullbar AND the front hitch though...unless you fab it up yourself. The hitch will mount at the points that that bar would. If, however, you want something to knock moose off the path in front of you...get the ARB. Regardless of winch-mount options: Get the CRD Frankenlift IIand keep your original springs. Our springs are the only ones that can hold up our already volumnous front ends. |

You might also look at Rock Lizard's front bumper since it is probably as stout as the ARB and it has a front hitch receiver. www.rocklizardfabrications.com |
