Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the '05 Grand Cherokee come with IFS? Isn't that front diff a steel Dana 30? Is there any chance that it would fit on our KJs? Like I said, I'm just brainstorming. If this has already been discussed, I appologize, and could someone direct me to the thread (if it still exists)?

the liberties already comes with the ifs (independent front suspension) and the dana 30, which might be the same diff as the 05 gc.

The Liberty comes with an ALUMINUM dana which is prone to detonating under the right circumstances. Big difference...

Can any explain how difficult it would be to upgrade to the Dana 44 IFS then? I'm just trying to figure out a solution to the weak diff thing.

I looked under a new Grand Cherokee the other day, and I am not sure how compatible trading the diffs would be. The Grand Cherokee had a much wider skid plate, and the location of the diff seemed to be higher up. Its IFS might be tied in with their automatic swaybar disconnect system too, which would be a lot of crap to try to fit.

Well if you wait until spring, we can all ask JeepinAl how to replace the Dana 30a with a Dana 44 for IFS. He has one that he plans on swapping in sometime this winter.

I was at the stealership today getting some c clips and made the mistake of asking the service guys about the GC front diff. They just stared at me like a deer in the headlights. They had no idea.

When asked why I was interested I explained to them why. Then pointed at my rig. The guy says "some people spend way too miuch money on their hobbies."

Like I said, I should have known better than to ask.
