| Post subject: | Need help deciding on rims+tires. |
I know everyone is sick of seeing these threads, but I feel like each person has their own different decision they need to make. I want to keep my stock rims+stock tire size, so im thinking of getting all new rims and tires for offroading only. I dont go that much, maybe 5-6times a year. I was thinking of getting the crager Series 397 black steel rims(16x7 with 4"backspacing) and some yoko geolander 245/70/16 tires. They are only $90 a piece and I know they would fit no problem. I do not want to cut on the fenders and all of that crap just to fit the 245/75/16 that I will only need a couple of times a year. Id say I will use them if it ever snows around here and may just leave them on there all winter, thats why I want the yokos. I know they are good year around b/c my bro has them on his cherokee. Do you all think that would be a good combo? I know the steel rims weigh ALOT more than the stock rims I have now, which is also why I want to keep the stock tire+rims. If i ever go on long trips, ill throw those on for gas mileage. I do not believe the 245/75/16's would fit with no rubbing with my 2"ome lift would they? Remember, im getting the 4" backspacing, if thats the best to get. Thanks guys. |

I have talked to a lot of people who plan on swapping, and never end up going back to thier A/Ts. They run the mudders all the time becuase they look good, aren't as loud as people try to say they are, and don't lose you THAT much gas mileage. I'm not sure I see any benefit to keeping A/T tires on a different set of rims. I would just get the 245/70s and run em all the time. Better yet, I'd get some 245/70 BFG MTs and run those all the time, and do no trimming. I guess what I mean is, before you have a set of MTs, it seems like the right thing to do is save em for offroad. After they are on, though, you are gonna love em too much to take em off. Just my opinion on the matter. |

The 4" of backspacing will probably cause you some problems. It will move your tires out about 1.25"...that sounds good but it will make the arc your tires travel when turning larger. This will probably cause major rubbing issues on the back seam pinch weld in the front wheelwells. You will notice it when you have your wheel turned and especially when off road and the suspension is compressed. You would do better to find some steel KJ rims that someone is getting rid of of some wheels with 5.25" offset. I had some custom wheels made with 4.25" offset and I had to do more trimming (265/75/16) in the front(plastic) and rear(metal with a dremmel). |

I wait around till someone sells some I guess. I may just get the 245/65/17's for my current rims. The only thing I worry about is the warranty, Im sure they could make up some reason that the tires caused the tranny to overheat causing the jeep to burn to the ground. They are crazy like that. |

I got some soft 8s 16x7 with 4" backspacing cause I was rubbing like crazy on th esway bar at full lock and th etires were just bout rubbing the upper a-arm. I put the rims on and the only thing i had to trim was the plastic over the pinch weld and beat it down. Now no rubbing anywhere. I got them from summit also for bout 48 bucks a pop. You can't beat them. Free shipping also and they were at my door in less than a week!!!!! |
