Tossing around the idea of doing a daystar lift untill i can pay for franky (which could be a year).
Should i up grade shocks or springs while im at it to something better than stock?
How much would it cost for a shop to install?, or anyone willing to assist.
I'm mechanically retarded untill i see it done once then i can usually do it again with proper tools.
Again just tossing the idea but 150.00 for a cheap temp lift may work for a year or so, also are there any problems i should know about the daystar lift? Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been asked i missed it in search. I'm sure ill have more "noob" questions later on :)

I have the Daystar kit on my KJ. I love the Daystar kit. I installed it myself in about 4 hours on the driveway. Easy to do if you follow the how-to that is posted here. I have an 07 model and I did the Daystar lift with a 3/8 clevis lift to level it out and get rid of the factory raked look. I pounded the pinch welds and trimmed the front fender liners. I also trimmed the bottom of the front bumper. All are very easy mods to do. I put Crager Black D's 15x7's with 4" BS on and I just put 31x10.50 tires. I love it. They look really good and make it ride a lot better than stock. I kept the stock shocks front and back when i did it. I will upgrade to Rancho's next. Should have done it to begin with. Here is a pic of mine after the 31's were put on.

Oh yeah, If you buy the KJ09115BK instead of the KJ09116BK Kit, you get the extended front bumpstops already included from Daystar.

Some of the Frankenlift packages come with Rancho shocks. You can buy the Daystar spacers, upgrade to the same Rancho shocks/struts the Franky uses....then in a year, all you will have to do is buy some OME 927 & 928 springs/maybe small stuff later and remove the Daystar.

If you are going to use your Jeep for hard core offroading then a Daystar is probably not for you. You have to be pretty honest with yourself on how you are going to use your Jeep. I was and the Daystar lift has been great. I don't really wheel the Libby though. I use it for camping, snow bashing, forest service roads and things of that nature. I like the looks as well!

If you really plan on going to places like Moab and tearing up on trails such as those, I would look into different options for lifts.

You would be better off saving your money up and doing it right the first time.

No hard offroading untill i get a proper lift and even then 95% of the time ill be on the road since its my daily driver.
I'll probably just wait till i can do the franky lift. After reading the write up doesnt look like something i'd be able to do without hurting the jeep or myself.
Buying all the tools for the job (floor jack jack stands etc) wasn't factored in either, wouldnt mind having them but no space in an apartment.
I'll just work on the small things i think i can do like lights and stuff.

KJ Taz - I'd disagree. I ran the Daystar lift hard for over 5 years. The type of lift isn't the problem. The problem is the effect on the other components (UCA's/ball joints, CV angles, etc) I have a Franky now and it wheels the same, just more plush. I upgraded really to get a stiffer front end now that I have a winch.

Exactly why the type of lift is the problem..........................it puts undue stress on other componets that the franklift and others address from the start.

Still disagreeing. You'll still tweak the stock UCA's with a Franky. It has the isolator pad to protect the coil, but contact will still occur with the UCA at full droop. It's a stock UCA issue with any lift around 2.5" and up, not a type of lift issue. The contact tweaks the ball joint and they get loose.

Only way around that is to get Al's arms (or others) that are longer and with a different geometry. I went through 3 sets of stock arms before my first set of Al's. Once on (while I still had my Daystar lift) the issue went away.

The CV's also will run near their angle limits more as it's wheeled - again, not a function of the type of lift, just an issue with a lift in general. Still not as big an issue in my experience though. Just know that hard wheeling will wear out the bits and pieces.

Either way it's still way better than dragging your belly on the ground! :D
