We'll be camping at the cleanup site. Just off the beeline at the four peaks staging, parking area. :)

I just picked up a load of water and over a thousand bags from Arizona Clean and Beautiful.

I want folks to have this link. IF YOU SEE SOMEONE LITTERING OR DUMPING KEEP THIS LINK OR TELEPHONE NUMBER HANDY.

http://www.arizonacleanandbeautiful.org ... _page.html

The Litter Hotline (1-877-3LITTER)

Once you fill this out the perpetrator will get a letter like this:
Image

Its "just" a letter, but many of these people would not want to get caught and this lets them know that they are being watched. It may not change their mind, but I REALLY do think that it will put enough fear into the perpetrators to think twice before doing it again for fear that they are being watched.

That's great Tim. I'll definatley be making some calls. The senseless (as if there were an appropriat time) littering really irks me.

There's a chance I might be able to make the Pick Up. Should know in a few days. I'd really like to contribute too. Do you think you have plenty of bags? I can see about getting some more from BLM, or a few cases we have laying around work.

Later,
mike

If all of the bags come through we should have enough. That being said, bring bags. I'm a bit nervous that not all promised will come through and thats the MOST important thing that we must have there.

yeah... I posted the clean-up on a well known gun forum in the Arizona section. I caught hell for the post and was really chastised. When I responded to one of the "spirited" desert shooters who really dogged four wheelers, Admin locked out the thread.

I wish i had the above clip before the thread was locked out. If anyone wants the link to my thread over there, PM and I'll send it to you.

Recalling from last year's event - I personally picked up 100's of spent shells both brass and plastic!
AJ and others from LOST: this event starts at 0900 and it was pretty much "lots of people everywhere"at registration so any suggestions as to adhere us as a group would be nice- they will group assign us to an area, the other wheeler clubs did this last year and the few LOST guys tried to hang together.

Some base ideas/ things:
Have an FRS handheld " 4 sub 1" - this way we can communicate
Get one of those hand trash picker clamp devices if you can as your back does get sore after while (target $9.95)
Get ready to check out the other rides from the other clubs-awesome stuff- and you get ideas for your project especially if you have any year Wrangler as that is the majority that will be there- Last year I saw numerous Big Three F/S pickup diesels and one early diesel Toyota Land Cruiser. I was the only CRD.
Remember the other recommended items listed by SOAZ

See you Saturday and it will be fun and worthwhile!

i most likely live closest to the event than anyone. If anyone wants to meet up, there's a Diamond Shamrock on the SE corner of Ellsworth and Broadway. It takes maybe 20 minutes or so to get to Four Peaks Rd from there. If anyone is interested, meet at 0815 and roll out at 0830? Or meet at the Chevron/McD's on the SW corner?

Unfortunately foul health has been plaguing me this week, I was hoping to be better before tomorrow but it doesn't appear that will be the case. I'm saddened I can't make the event as I truly want to be there to help. I can only hope there will be a significant number of people in attendance to make it as clean an area as nature intended. My best to you all, and with that, here goes another shot of Nyquil....argh....

Silverdiesel, M&P 40 and myself met up and caravaned over to Clean-up Central and signed in. We were assigned Area F, on the Sycamore Creek side. After we got our assignment we headed over to our spot. There were already a few people getting ready to do their thing.

Let me say... today made me ashamed to be a shooter. All of the areas we passed on the way to ours were strewn with spent shotgun shells, brass of all calibers, remenants of targets, clay pigeons and all the other trash the inconsiderate idiots left behind. To top it all off, while we were doing our thing, you could hear gunfire all around us. Now get this, a bunch of us were cleaning up the garbage when two yahoos (and I use the word loosely) stopped and had the nerve to ask if there was anywhere they could shoot today.

We got our area cleaned up and headed back to base camp. It was still too early for the BBQ and raffle, so being the diehard off roader that he is, Silverdiesel suggested a quick run up to the summit of Four Peaks, so off we went.

By the time we got back down off the mountain, everyone had already packed up and left... even the two oversized garbage roll aways had been taken away. I ran into another guy I knew from AZVJC/Ham Radio club. We all talked for awhile and left for home right before it got dark.

The bottom line to this whole day was... I can understand why the "greenies" want to close off our public lands. Because of the actions of a few, the place was a mess.

Here are a few pics from today...

SO many great pictures!!
I'm sitting here having a beer with Clint, who created this site, talking about the cleanup. THANK YOU to everyone that came out. Just amazing.

Talk about a great day. Over 500 people and initial estimates show over 20 TONS of trash. Thank you all so much!!
Amazing effort put forth by all of the volunteers!

I give up!!! No wonder the "Greenies" are winning in their efforts to close public lands.

Okay... the Four Peaks Clean-up was on Saturday, it rained Sunday and part of Monday. Today is Tuesday... just three days after the clean-up.

I was off work today, so i jumped in the Jeep to take a ride out to Four Peaks to see if i could get some snow pictures. While there I decided to take a ride over to Area F where several of us from LOST helped a few other folks clean up the place.

The place has already been trashed as well as several other clean-up spots!!! It's disgusting to see the hard work of all the people involved go down the tubes so fast!!! IMHO, the entire area needs to be closed off to shooters, they have little or no regard for the land. On second thought, it ought to be illegal to shoot anywhere but on an official target range. And we're lucky if they don't close us out too!!

As some of you may know, I posted the clean-up on a gun forum I frequent occasionally and caught all kind of insults.

Cleaning up after those idiots is not the answer. Unless we can somehow get the message across to the shooting community... we'll just be out there year after year after year.

Off my soap box.

You can imagine how this makes me feel. Thanks for sending me the PM.

As a bit of a tradition. After everyone has left I like to drive the cleanup sites to take a look at them. This year almost every site had someone at it shooting already just an hour after we were there! No biggie, its legal and I'm a shooter too. The biggie was that one site had a guy with a few boxes of old food and some pallets already set up shooting. (it looked like heck)
The other site had some kids at it shooting and I asked them to cleanup after themselves. Which I know was met with a yah right old man after I left.

Its all part of the process. I just hope that each time we do it, a few people learn to treat the land with more respect. I know not everyone will stop.

One thing I want to say is that, I think its bad to say that shooting should be illegal everywhere, but at a range. For example, I'm near Anza Borrego right now and today we saw several shooters spots filled with shot up trash. The thing is, ITS ILLEGAL TO SHOOT ANYWHERE in the park we were in. That didn't stop them. If you making shooting illegal it will only stop the responsible ones. The Yahoos don't care about laws or they'd not litter in the first place.
In fact, last years Four Peaks Pickup grand prize was donated by a good shooter organization and both years had lots of shooters there participating.

Just like everything, there are the responsible shooters and there are the $*^*# idiots. There are responsible Jeepers, 4x4ers, dirt bikers, atvers etc, but there are some horrible ones. Shutting an area down to everything is one way to handle it, but I'd rather try everything else we can first.

I feel your pain though AZKJ. I'm having a hard time not getting really, really.... ANGRY about that happening SO fast....
