| Post subject: | Sedona's Broken Arrow |
My brother-in-law will be visiting this weekend from Australia and wants to see Sedona. I've done Broken Arrow & Soldier Pass before when I owned a Land Rover Disco 2 with 265/75R16 MTs without any problems. However, my 2006 CRD with the Rocky Road 2.5" budget lift & 245/75R16 ATs (without skids) seems much lower. I am a bit worried about clearances on Devil's Staircase.  For those of you who have run this trail in a KJ, will I run into any clearance problems with my 06 CRD Sport?

I made it through broken arrow on a KJ w/ a lift 2.5" with 245/75R16. I never scraped the ground once. The stairs where not bad at all. In fact the trail was not overlly difficult for me in a KJ. I'd just give it a moderate in a KJ. Done must worst and survived. Great little trail though. Quite fun. Just need to watch out for the Pink Jeeps. Here are some pictures

Its funny I was just asking about that trail a few weeks ago myself. I haven't done it yet, but as soon as I get a weekend off, I hope to. As far as the pink jeeps, just wave at every single one. Thats what I did coming down Schnebly Hill Road. A few were pretty rude, but I ended up talking to a couple of very cool drivers. Made a good example of the Liberty to the tourists as well.

Great. Thanks for the info. I went ahead and purchased the Mopar engine and tranny skidplates anyway. Better safe than sorry. I've done the trail several times in my Land Rover (international guests love Sedona). The Pink Jeeps were always so thrilled to see us. They had probably only seen Land Rovers being used for the transportation of soccer kids by mothers carrying Starbucks coffee cups. Between my German front license plate, my wife's British accent, and the shiny Land Rover on an actual trail, I think we left many tourists very confused. 
I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures and post them after the trip. Here's a short video going down the steps in the Rover from December 2005.

I loved Sedona when I visited it this past March whilst on Spring Break. Me and 3 other friends drove from Memphis out west on a National Park tour...While giving them a driving tour make sure to take them on a walking tour too to Devil's Bridge, it's about a 1-1.5 mile round trip hike I believe. Pretty scary if your shaky about heights, but my friend didn't seem to mind when he sat on the edge...

I would definitely recommend them. The whole reason that I did Schnebly Hill Road only is that, like you, I havent gotten skids on yet. |

I installed the engine and transmission skids on the CRD today. With the lift, tires, and skids, I think we'll be fine on Broken Arrow. Oh ya, I also talked my buddy into coming along in his Xterra. |

Well, we started out on Solider Pass. No problems here. Did the off-shoot for Devil's Kitchen too. Unfortunately, after the 2 mile soldier pass trail, my brother-in-law and his wife decided they weren't that interested in 4x4 trails.  So we didn't get to do Broken Arrow. With a baby due in Jan, I have a feeling that it may be a little while before I get the opportunity again.
