Requesting info on Jeep service (routine maintenance) in Phoenix area ... fluids, plugs, filters, etc. I'd like to do it myself, alas - 'no way' according to the condo HOA. I'll likely end up at the dealer - but thought I'd ask you folks first.

Chiv AZ, Welcome. I'd help but in way southeast AZ. Sure that some of the Phoenix area gang will chime in soon. Maybe even offer a helping hand or parking spot.

Hey ChivAZ, welcome aboard. I'd say go and get whatever stuff you need and go park in the lot of your friendly AutoZone, thats what I do. I live in an apartment with restrictions on working on vehicles so I just find it less hassle all around, plus if I need something I can always just walk in the store and see if they have it.

I like the way you think ... but I'm not sure they'd care to see a front/rear diff fluid exchange 50 feet from their front door. Although it would make those runs BACK to the place (for more supplies) a lot quicker, wouldn't it?

Go for it...heck I've changed alternators, batteries, water pumps, starters, oil, timing belts, and who knows what else at places like autozone. They see this stuff all of the time. They can answer most of your questions, loan you tools, and they may even let you in to wash your hands. 8)

PLUS you dont have to store your used oil....they will recycle it for you.

Hit don't git no bedder'n that! Come to think of it, they'd probably do us ALL a favor if they'd simply put in a bay, right?

I've had an idea tickling the back of my head for a long time about opening up a shop with maybe a half-dozen bays that people can rent out, main thing that keeps me away from it is all the liability issues I can think of. Way back in another life I worked at a little gas station on the west side of Albuquerque that had a bay with a functional lift (we didn't do any mechanic work, the store just came with it). I used to love being able to pull my car in and lift it up to work on brakes, rotate tires, all that good stuff.

I know what you mean. Back in college (and that was a long time ago), I found a station with a bay - complete with lift - that could be rented by the hour! I've got to believe that lots of people would jump at a chance like that (we'd just have to tell the insurance companies to go screw!).

Some military bases have shops that will rent you a bay/ tools for the day. I'm not sure if you have to have military creds to use it. As far as changing the diff fluids, that's not a long procedure so you'll hardly be there an hour.

If you Do need to go to a dealer, Airpark Jeep is great. Ask for Brian Erdman and tell him that Dave with the black diesel Liberty sent you. If he is not available, ask for Eric Leis. Those are both great guys.

I've changed oil at Autozone before since I live in an apartment. I just find a spot off to the side away from main traffic. I buy there, change there, and give them the oil when I'm done. Very convenient
