Florence Junction or Chiva Falls?
Saturday or Sunday?

Vern... Beth and I are up for something on Saturday, but I don't think we want to do Chivo Falls (Wells #71). It's rated "difficult" with lockers recommended, something neither of our Jeeps have.

I have a concern that we might want to check out... the easy trail that was picked for FITS. Chimney Rock (Wells #70) is also rated as "difficult". Wells goes on to say... "aggressive stock vehicles with good articulation, high ground clearance and skids can make it". I don't think a stock height Liberty falls into that category.

If you want to do a pre-run this Saturday to decide if Chimney Rock is in fact suitable for a stock Liberty, let us know and we'll meet you somewhere.

FJ is out, I need to get my SLP renewed.

FYI... Bulldog Canyon requires a permit (it's free) that's good for six months. It is obtained only at the Mesa Ranger Station. Each driver has to have one, it's not a group permit. If you get caught without one, it's a BIG fine. And yes, there are Rangers out there checking for them.

THE MESA RANGER DISTRICT

The Mesa Ranger District is located north and east of the town of Apache Junction, and consists of approximately 430,000 acres (approximately 170,000 hectares) of Desert, Semi-desert Grassland, Chaparral, Pinyon-Juniper types of vegetation as well as a small area of Ponderosa Pine. The very popular Lower Salt River, Saguaro Lake and Canyon Lake are located on this district.

The Mesa Ranger Station is in northeast Mesa . Drive east on US Highway 60 (Superstition Freeway) to the Higley Road Exit. Drive north for approximately 4 miles to Ingram Street on the left. The Mesa Ranger Station is approximately 0.1 mile on the north side of Ingram Street.

OR

From Country Club Drive (Highway 87), drive east on McKellips Road for approximately 6 miles. Turn south on Higley Road for approximately 0.3 miles to Ingram Street on the right. The Mesa Ranger Station is approximately 0.1 miles on the north side of Ingram Street.

I'm waiting on Vern to reply to see if he wants to pre-run Chimney Rock for next month FITS.

AJ, you'd have no problem with Chivo Falls with that bad JK of yours.

I do like the Chimney Rock idea, just to "double check" That being said, I will not be able to make it. Already used a sick day yesterday and maybe one today (stupid flu).

Yeah, I think we should pre-run Chimney Rock. I can do it Saturday if Vern or someone wants to go with us. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it alone. If it's doable for a stock height KJ that would free you up to run the harder trail if you want and I could lead the stock run. Just a thought.

OT: Any decision on the menu change? If so, is Ernie going to take care of the logistics or is he gonna need help? Also, maybe a post to announce it or keep it a surprise?

I like the chimney rock pre-run idea, lets do it! Anyone who wants to join us is welcome as well. There are two ways to get to chimney rock. One is a short graded forest road like four peaks. The other is the trail Wells describes. It is a moderate trail, but I don't care for it. It is long and bumpy with not much scenery. Let's do the short-cut entrance and leave more time to play
As for Chivo Falls Wells book is out of date. It used to be a very serious trail due to one obstacle right at the beginning. That obstacle now has several bypasses and we have taken several stock liberty's in there with no problems. It is a fun and beautiful trail, especially this time of year with water coming over the falls. We could possibly have time to do them both depending on everyone's preferences.

Sorry, can't make it to Bulldog. We're heading down to Tucson to meet up with oldhockeyvb to pre-run Chimney Rock and Chivo Falls for our upcoming FITS event in April. How about joining us??

I don't have a Wells book so I guess my knowledge of where these courses are is minute to none. so here we go...

Where exactly is Chimney Rock located, and where are you guys meeting up to run it?

Where exactly is Bulldog located, and where do you propse we should meet to run it?

Looking to explore my options here so we'll see what yall come back with...either trip I would like to attend though, but if djui5 is going alone I'll tag up with him so he'll have some back-up should the need arise for it.

Chimney Rock is located on the northeast side of Tucson, a 2 hour drive from East Mesa. We're meeting at 1000 in the Circle K parking lot located at 11271 E. Tanque Verde Rd, Tucson. Here's a link...

Bulldog Canyon is located just north of Apache Junction. Don't know where he is meeting. There are three locked gates to gain access to the area that i know of (permit required for "each" vehicle and the area is patrolled by Rangers, big fine if you don't have the permit).

The south entrance is located off of Cactus Rd. The west entrance is off the Usery Pass and the north entrance is on is on the Bush Hwy, near the Blue Point Bridge.

I'm going with a guy from VJC, but it would be nice to have more than 2 heeps there. We're meeting at the Cottonwood Canyon entrance. I'm not sure exactly which one that is but will check my map and post tonight. We are meeting at 8:30 if anyone wants to join us. Would be nice to wheel with some Libertys.

I apologize for not being able to let you guys know in advance but I unfortunately had a work incident yesterday that led to me to ahve to work again today and miss out on wheeling up there...hope all had fun and were safe.
