Hey, all. Fairly experienced Jeep guy here; currently own a 98 XJ and a 97 ZJ both pushing 200K, and have had three Jeeps (XJ, ZJ, TJ) before those. I'm pretty interested in the CRD Libbys, and was directed here from other sites. I'm not in a super hurry so I can find what I want. More curious right now as to how they compare size and handling wise to my XJ. Thanks for all the good information so far, I probably would've been turned off to the CRDs just by reading reviews.

WELCOME!
(I think your title meant to be KJ? JK, is the new Wrangler.)

Anyway, there is a ton of info here, especially CRD specific. If you don't mind a hands on project with your Jeep, then a CRD may be for you. Read "Sam's NOOB Guide" to see what its all about.

Here is a post from just a couple days ago which may help your decision into a Liberty.

Oy, indeed. I want nothing to do with a JK. Thanks, and edited.

I did read that thread, and my wife does not like my XJ at all either. I'm pretty handy with a wrench, and I've read the Noob guide. I guess my biggest concern is if the previous owners didn't do anything at all, are the EGR issues reversable, or will they do long-term damage to the vehicle? I probably won't even look at anything with more than 70k miles.

Unfortunately, I can't answer too many of your questions, because I don't own a CRD...

One of my buddies does, so I know a thing or two, and when I'm bored I go wandering in the CRD section, hah.

I do know this though, you're definitely going to have to change the timing belt at or before 100k. So keep that in mind when looking at the mileage, because depending how much you drive, you're going to have to change it sooner or later.
Oh, and the turbo houses.

The search on this site works pretty well compared to some forums, but I always go to :google:
In the search bar, type: "site:www.lostjeeps.com" and then your search.

Enjoy!
