Hello Lost Jeeps! Just picked up my new (used) 2006 Jeep KJ 4x4! Picked her up certified pre-owned for $14,000 with 30,000 miles. I've been floating around the forum like crazy and I'm even more excited to have my jeep now then I was before.

I actually had a quick question,, I've read a lot of the topics and what not, but what are the biggest size tires you can throw on a KJ without having any negative affects (other than maybe some gas mileage difference)? Because I do want a lift, but I'm on a budget. So I was thinking some new shoes may work for me for now. Then maybe think about a lift later on. I was looking at a 1.5 or 2 in daystar spacer lift.

Welcome!!

Keep in touch over in the Midwest forum. I am going to try to organize a get together either at the Bundy Hill or The Mounds once

Being stock biggest will be 245-70s, with 2.5 to 3 inches a good size with no problems is 245-75s any larger and you start to lose power and MPGs unless you regear

Also Welcome to LOST, I'm down the road a little ways across the Border!!

Hey, thanks Tom. That's kind of what I figured. Another question. I'm sure it's on here somewhere but I cant find it. Do I need to stay with a 16in wheel? Reason I'm asking is that I found someone selling 5 cragar soft 8s for $130. Only thing is they are 15in.

15 inch soft 8s will work, not many others though. Check the backspacing though. Should be around 4 inches back spacing on a 7 inch wide wheel. Also works better when lifted , without being lifted will have some rubbing on the fenders/ pinchweld.

Welcome

I was in the same situation with tires as you... wanted a lift but needed new tires soon. I got 245/70R16 per Tommudd's advise and couldn't be happier.

I think I read yer thread on that. Did you have any rubbing issues?

Post subject:  Re: Hey, from Michigan! edit w/ pic

still not lifted and no rubbing. the tires do look big and fill the wheel wells good.

Edit here is a pic I took with my blackberry right after they were mounted... ok not right after I drove a few miles.

SInce these tires did me so well this winter and I had the jeep off road woth them and no issues, plus they ride better than the badyears that were on it I'm planning to keep them untill worn out even after I get around to lifting. why get rid of good tires when All I would do is move up to 245/75 post lift, to me not worth buying new tires for a difference so small untill needed again.
