| Post subject: | Hello all |
After owning wranglers of various shapes and sizes for the last 18 years, I am now in a 2005 Liberty Renegade, and I absolutely LOVE it, maybe even more than I did my wranglers. I am not a hardcore off roader, but I am not a mall jeeper either. My jeep is a "working vehicle" that is used for nature photography, paddle sports, hiking, camping, and and volunteer work at a few nature preserves around in my area. As far as modifications, other than slapping on some 245/75/r16 A/T tires, my libby is pretty much stock (for now). But I am looking for suggestions to build it up to suit the needs of a serious nature photographer and a dirt worshiping outdoors freak! I defiantely want to look into a functional brush guard (open to suggestions), roof mounted cargo rack (not one of those 100 pound weight limit deals, I haul around a lot of stuff, which probably means scrapping the plastic stock roof rails in addition). I would also like to get out of the stock wheels... they look ok, but I would like to get something that can take some abuse with out getting trashed (rock rash), and something with a smaller backspacing to give me a little more stability and wider footprint. eventually, I wouldnt mind a small lift kit and some bigger meat on the wheels. I will primarily be driving in shallow marshes, old logging roads, stream crossings, going over logs, etc, so I am open to any and all suggestions! Thanks! |

How about if we list that as serious work to get out and play? I dont want to build some kind of monster rig, and I dont think I will be tackling the Moab anytime soon, but I do get into some pretty nasty, thick stuff a couple of times a month... |

Sounds interesting... As far as tow points, 2 in the front, and one in the rear. I would be interested in testing out this puppy's capabilities, I used to do a lot of wheeling in my 78 cj5 and my 93 YJ.... |

For a roof rack, Boiler (a LOST member) has a pretty good option. Link: viewtopic.php?f=34&t=47811 If you're dead set on a brush guard have at it, but I would love to get a replacement bumper myself, like an ARB: http://www.boulderbars.com/kjproducts.htm (PS, that link also has other products available for the KJ, such as a Frankenlift) For wheels, many here have gone with Cragar Soft 8's, they are inexpensive, an inch wider than stock, and have .5 inch less backspacing. When looking at wheels remember that the KJ has a 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-3 ... /?rtype=10 If you're going to be getting into serious water, you may want to consider a snorkel. (both Airflow [the O.G.] and ARB make a snorkel for the KJ) However, that will require drilling a large hole in your fender - if that makes you nervous, scratch it off your list - but remember to keep the water below your grill! Otherwise, welcome to the forum! |

Thanks guys for the welcome! By the way, does anybody run the blackrock series 950 lobo wheels on their liberty? I like the look of them alot better than the stock renegade wheels, just wanted to make sure the blackrocks didnt hangup on the caliper... (I think they have a 4" back spcing instead of the stock wheels 5") |
