Just dropping in and actually participating for the first time here. Anybody know any good spots to wheel in Western Mass? Nothing too rough...driving an 06 kj with an aging 3 inch rough country lift. I know I know, but the ex wasn't pleased with my purchasing the truck to begin with, never mind the lift and the 265/75r16's that rubbed like crazy even with some plastic trimming. Currently rolling around on some mud and snow "scrambler" tires from pep boys now, 235/85r16. They rub considerably less. Hey, it wheels. So, after 40,000 miles on the rough country lift I've finally realized my jeep rides like a buckboard. It wasn't too bad most of the time, but when the ride quality started going downhill it went fast. So, I decided to replace the shocks and struts and re-install the rough country lift. I purchased some loaded struts. When they arrived I was having trouble deep inside with purchasing the rear rough country setup again and opted for some skyjacker 2 1/2 lift rear springs.Then, I decided to go for some more lift up front and got (gulp) the Rock Krawler 3.5 lift, I know...a fool and his money...posting.php?mode=post&f=43#
The original RC lift gave me about 3 inches in the front and about 1 1/2 in the rear. Now I'm looking at 3.5 in the front and hopefully 2.5 in the rear. I'm buying some Bilstein shocks for the front and the back. I'll buy some rear iso's and front plates to have on hand and even things up if need be. I've read all over the place about lifting too high and cv joint problems. If my truck survived this long with a rough country lift I don't think there is anything I can do to kill it!

Hopefully you'll take the time to read through the various posts on here about lifts and know the neither lift you have chosen is going to give you good service
You need new springs and shocks and start over
But welcome and hopefully you'll move forward with a smoother ride and better handling
measure from middle of wheel to bottom of flare
this should be interesting

Welcome. Listen to the Rev Mudd, he's tried about every combo/lift out there. RC and RK are about the two lowest out there, stay away from Rocky Road too. Go with OME springs and some good shocks.

Don't the jeeping by Al struts use longer forks like the Rock Krawler? Anybody know how to post pics here?

apples and oranges difference
He uses a complete coilover etc so has to use a different clevis setup
With either of those kits you mentioned and worn out shocks and springs
well its not a good ride or very good handling
