Hey all. I'm nu. I don't own a Jeep....yet. I'm trying to decide between a Liberty and a Cherokee. I've heard really mixed reviews on the Libertys, hence why I'm here now. I've been in the car game for a long time though. Started off with a turbo civic (I still hate admitting I ever drove a Civic), had a fully built/turbo Civic, then bought a Nissan 240 and threw an LS1 from a 99 Corvette in there. The only thing I didn't do myself on that swap was make the driveshaft lol.

Anyways, forums are great. Hope to find some great info on here that will help me decide! Thanks!

Ok as someone who owns both currently. 2008 KK Liberty and 2012 Grand Cherokee (altitude edition) I can compare the two pretty well for you. We have only had the grand since July and LOVE it. The Grand has the 3.6L pentastar v6. The liberty engine seems much more torquey than the Grand and as a result gets better gas mileage when I'm pulling my boat around. (17 in the liberty vs 15 in the grand) its approx 1800-2000 lbs 17ft whaler single axle with johnson V4. Overall MPG is 20.5 in the liberty and 22.5 in the Grand Cherokee. I can't compare the 4 wheel drive between the two because we have not yet needed it on the Grand Cherokee. The ride between the two is night and day, The cherokee is SSSSOOOO smooth! The liberty has a shorter wheel base and is much rougher and does not trach as well on the highways. All of this being said I love my liberty, but if I had to choose between the two I would get the Grand Cherokee only because I don't off road enough to justify having the liberty. I'm mostly on beaches and dirt, not rocks.
Hope this helps and feel free to hit me up with and ?'s about these vehicles. Don't forget that the new Cherokees are going to get the 8 speed (current has a 5 speed or 6 speed with the v8) and a diesel option. Oh and the SRT8 is available if you can afford it.

I was thinking that the OP meant Cherokee the one that Liberty replaced. OP can you chime in so we know.

If your looking daily driver and you can afford newer I'd do newer. If you are looking for a sometimes driver and play toy then I'd say Cherokee. A lot more play parts, available. But it's your money.

If you're looking at a play toy or a DD I'd go 02-07 Liberty
Cherokees are alright, had 3 of them over the years
but with the straight 6s issues, flex in the bodies, bad ride etc, KJs are much better in the long run.
The KKs well you couldn't give me one of them
don't like the style, seats, etc

I like the KK's.

Guess I'm here to stay. Just picked up an 08 Sport! I'll get some pics up later. It's dark here now lol.
