I'm Dave, in Northern Virginia. I've owned my 05 CRD since May 2010. I've made a lot of use of the resources on this board over the last couple years, and I thought it might be a good idea to finally register. It may be a bit before I get some pics up, but I will. -Dave |

I thought I'd share a (not very good) pic and the mods I've done so far in a little more detail.  I had the TrueTrac installed in the rear, and it was a lot more of a pain than I thought it would be. It turned out that the bolt holes in the TrueTrac were not the same size as the bolt holes in the ring gear, so I had to buy a carbide drill bit and have a buddy drill each hole out on his press. The TrueTrac, once installed, has been great. The GoLight on the roof is a spotlight controlled by a joystick that I mounted in the coin tray. It's been very useful, and I have the LED GoLight module coming to replace the halogen bulb currently in there. I have two rear-facing VisionX Solstice Solo LED lights mounted on the rearmost roof rail studs. They're both very bright and draw less than an amp combined when running. I have three 5W amorphous solar panels mounted on the roof between the RRO roof rails, and a fourth on the way. Those run to a 10A dual output charge controller. For now, the charge controller only charges/maintains the starting battery, but I have two Oddyssey PC625 batteries that will go under the rear bench to run the 450W inverter I have mounted to the rear of the center console, and maybe some other accessories and as a jump start pack as a last resort. I swapped the dome lights and map lights over to LED bulbs, with the exception of the dome light in the hatch due to the need to have some resistance in the circuit, and I'm planning to swap LEDs into the dash and console lights. I installed LED bulbs in all of the rear lights, including the backup and turn signal lights. They're very bright, and I haven't had any issue with them so far. I swapped the bulbs in the ARB bullbar to LED too, except for my pedastal-mount front turn signals, due to the need for resistance in that circuit too. I have RRO rock rails and roof rails, neither of which have given me any problems. The RRO roof rails do sit at an outwards leaning angle though, compared to the factory roof rails. I have Skidrow skidplates on the front and gas tank, and Mopar skidplates for the tranny and transfer case. I'll likely eventually replace those with Skidrow plates too. I have had GDE Eco tune now for a little over a year, and have been quite pleased with it. I have a siren box out of a cruiser with the sirens disabled internally and the horn routed to a horn button to the right of the steering wheel. I don't use it often, but when I do it gets the job done. I have a Uniden Bearcat radio scanner in the stock radio location and an external speaker mounted in the space inside the dash under the steering column. It's useful and nice to have. I also have an upgraded head unit mounted in the same area as the external speaker, and a steering wheel radio controls adapter run to it, since I can't see or access the stereo while moving. I have a 1.5 inch OME lift, and it's worked out great with the bullbar and winch. I built an infrared nightvision system for fun using surplused out infrared driving lights from a military vehicle, an infrared camera mounted inside next to the rearview mirror, and a pop-up 3.5 inch screen mounted on the dash next to the A pillar. I have taillight guards in the rear that have actually proved useful riding the trails out in the mountains around here. I did do the V6 airbox mod and have been happy with that too. I have several more mods planned, such as a front TrueTrac, flat-blacking the hood due to the GoLight mounting location, an upgraded torque converter, Provent, 245/75R16 tires, TruckLite LED headlights, maybe bedlining the fenders and bumpers, and maybe someday a snorkel, although I'm not sure if I want one. Eventually I'll get around to swapping in the new gas tank, fuel sending unit, and speedo light bulbs in to my '77 CJ5 too.

Ha, I used to have the GoLight mounted right above the middle dome light, but that proved to be a less than ideal spot. I did entertain the idea for a while of running two GoLights in tandem on the front, but ultimately decided against it. If I ever decided to mount one on another vehicle, I'll PM you about the price though. Thanks for the welcome, it's good to finally interact with others here instead of just reading the posts. |
