I am the proud owner of a 'new to me' 2006 Jeep Liberty Limited CRD. (53k)
I have had it for about three weeks, and it has already become my new Italian Mistress. I have read the noob guide, and so far I have replaced the thermostat(OEM) and brakes all around. Reading this forum helped to diagnose the thermostat problem, helped me to order a new part(and gasket), and even the 'how to' part on replacement. It only took me XX hours to replace. With the majority of time spent swearing, laughing and caressing my new mistress. I now have a carcass to mail to Canada and get modified for the next replacement. (ETA of the next replacement is about 24 months?) The brakes were replaced because the calipers had not been grasping the rotors fully and shims were a bit cocked. The stopping was fine and straight, but the rotors sure looked like hell. The brake problems were discovered during the safety inspection by the state...aarrgghhhh!!! Now I am arguing with the dealership about reimbursement for parts, as I did the rotor and pad replacement myself. I was a bit shocked at the price of the rear rotors, but I survived that with only about $400 spent. Now they seem a bit squishy and soft, but that will be another affair as I probably need to vent the brake lines???
I have replaced the oil and filter twice, in my short ownership. I installed a Fumoto valve and it leaked in HWMBO driveway...20 ft-lbs is not alot, and I was very careful not to exceed. I my rush to liqour up my new favorite mistress, I forgot that little gasket thingy, as HWMBO, calls it. I also did not take into acount the running torque of the valve, so it was loose and drippy. Definitely not the way I should leave the new mistress. It was a shame to dispose of the Mobil 1 0w-40 and the NAPA filter, but she is now tight and holding her liquid.
Did I mention how excited I am to have this great vehicle!!! Thanks for the great advice, both before and now after the purchase.
