Post subject:  Jeep Noob from LI,NY

Hi. My daughter just picked up a 2002 as her first car, which puts me in charge of it. I've got experience with a lot of different cars but never a Jeep.

We don't pick it up for a few days but she's really excited. She wanted a Liberty because it's "cute". Then I found her something a little less cute. I know the ARB will not make the cut but she is open to trying out the 2 1/2 lift and Cepek's for awhile. At first she wanted it put back to stock but then the owners told her how much fun it was on the beach :)

Don't know who's more excited honestly, her or me.

Awesome. What lift are they running on it? Looks like a good setup just from looking at the pics. Hope she can afford the gas the Liberty will eat up :ROTFL:

2.5 Rusty kit . I was surprised how nice it drove the way it's setup, front tires do rub at full lock though.

She's in HS so it's only local driving, work, school, friends. I did stress that she would be spending twice as much for gas as she would with a car. She knows what she wants though and she's stubborn. Just like her mother :). Since she paid for half of it i didn't feel it was right to force her to buy something else. A black Liberty has been her dream car for about 5 years.

Welcome , she had a great dream then , black KJs are the best
Just watch the Rustys lift, not so good, weak front springs ( will not hold up even without the weight of the ARB) , also bad rear shocks
KJs are not that bad on gas really if they are setup right , right size tires/gearing etc

That might be why the front tires rub at full lock. She's already asked that i take the ARB off and put the nose back to stock, That may help with the tires. Currently running M/T wheels and Richard Cepek Fun Country II 265/75/16. The offset looks wrong for a Liberty, not sure I'll need to check. Will the stock flares need to be trimmed for clearance?
Thanks

Well for one thing it appears backspacing and maybe width is wrong as well, plus that size tire and if it wasn't regeared then its way down on power and mileage would suc k
ARBs can bring a nice price as can the wheels if you wanted to sell
installing 245-75-16s would help the power and mileage
16 X 7 wheels with 4 inches of backspacing is a great size etc for a lifted KJ

Measure from the middle of the wheel to bottom of the flare if you would
then we can tell how much of actual lift you have and what you can run etc
I ran a ARB and 265-75s for a long time and no rubbing at all

Thanks
We're picking it up Friday I'll measure it up then. I've got the ARB on the local Craigslist. Wheels/tires will be there soon as well. Thanks for the suggestion on sizes that'll help. I'd really like to get a tighter look with the tires tucked in some more.

If you sell the ARB you'll need to find some new front flares as well since you have to cut the bottoms off to install the ARB
Just an FYI
