Post subject:  New CRD owner in Pacific Northwest

Hello, I just bought an 06 Liberty CRD last month and really appreciate this site. I like to do my research and am getting better and better with each new " do it yourself" fix. I'm a big diesel fan and also own a 97 7.3l powerstroke which can rest up for the "big jobs" now that I have my CRD to do the daily driver duty.

I began my Liberty CRD expedience with an unnoticed coolant leak that went undiscovered during what I thought was a rigorous test drive. After two attempts at the Toyota dealership I bought it at, they sent it to Jeep to find it was a blown head gasket (a week after purchasing it). I can only assume it was sold to me that way as the leak was noticed as soon as I got it home. After some "discussions" with the dealers GM my new (at least new to me at 127k) CRD was at the jeep dealership for repair (on Toyota's dime). I also had them replace the timing belt while they had the timing cover off.

Now everything seems good to go! It sips the diesel on the highway which is great as my commute is roughly 60 miles one way.

As I'm looking ahead I'd love to learn from you others about ways I can improve performance and ensure reliability with my new investment. I also hear that the weakness on these CRD's is the torque converter and transmission. Anybody out there have problems with those that can offer advice and a good aftermarket product to overcome this weakness?

Cheers and happy motoring!
