Yesterday while driving my Liberty started running real rough. I took it to the shop today and they said the EGR valve needs to be replaced ($1200 w/ labor). Also, my turbo charger is leaking oil and suggest replacing it ($3000). They are not sure if there is anything else wrong but said the costs could go as high as $5-6K. I'm shocked. I've never had any troubles. It's a 2005 with 60,500mi. We're checking with our Jeep community, trying decide if it should be repaired. If so, should I go somewhere else for a second opinion/quote. We were recommended to post our need on this site as well. I live in Phx. AZ. If anyone has suggestions please chime in. Thanks! |

Dealership is clueless. They might be right about the EGR if they do it - but they can be manually cleaned - or electronically limited (check with GreenDieselEngineering) The Turbo leaking oil - is a design feature - function of the CCV design - only time the turbo should be replaced is it has measurable wear. First big issue - the only training the dealership received was a 45 minutes video - in 2005. everything else they're learning on your dime. Check over in CRD..Love that torque - and look for good mechanics close to you. call GDE and talk to Keith - one of the very few folks in the country that's been factory trained on these Diesels http://www.greendieselengineering.com/goPage.do?method=home oh yeah - and Welcome to LOST we also have a Noob guide that could be helpful http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=54207 |

Thank you very much for the feedback. Good advice. We heard back from a friend that has the same vehicle, had some of the same problems, and he gave the same advice you did. I feel a lot better about the situation today. I'll post results of our repair progress. |
