Well,

Joined the forum a few weeks ago. Did MANY hours of reading. Read MANY post from other forums and decided this vehicle is the BEST fit for my wants/needs.

Found one in EXCELLENT shape in North Carolina, that people must not of liked it was a diesel..it sat on their lot for over 70 days and they wanted it GONE. So, I got a great price too.

It appears to be all factory, with no mods (I'll know more later when I can get into it). I'm hearing a popping noise on tight reverse turns from drivers wheel..I can only assume its a C/V joint more than likely. During my 800 mile trek back to Sarastoa, Florida from North Carolina, I noticed a few things. It needs a thermostat (go figure eh :) ), and the tires are new and larger than the original (245 vs 225's). TPMS light lit up the next cold morning. Door sticker calls for 35 PSI, but these tires call for 44 PSI, the tires were all below 30 PSI. I pumped them up to 37 PSI and light went out. So, I have a few questions for the group...see who answers..may have to repost some/all to the CRD area.

I will be doing the following mods over the next few months:

Jeff's thermostat unit
GDE Eco-Tune
Weeks CRD Intake Elbow Kit
Timing Belt Kit (TB, idlers, water pump) - Idparts kit
ALL fluids changed

Anything else you can suggest?

Would you recommend running the new 245 tires at the rated 44 PSI..if so, can the TPMS on these vehciles be programmed to different pressures like the newer WIN-T systems?

Lastly, can SOMEONE find out how to get a hold of Micheal Brasher (I'm assuming he is the administrator for the Jeep Liberty CRD Facebook group)

Code:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/libertydiesels/members/

I have requested a join, messaged him...no reply. Maybe a new administrator should be assigned.

Thanks,

Doug

Welcome to the group!
All the modes you listed are good ones. Add a ProVent CCV filter to your list! Change the oil ASAP and put in a full synthetic diesel oil like Mobil 1 5W-40. Unplug the MAF if it does not have a tune yet to disable the EGR until you can get a tune that will disable it.
The EGR is an engine killer :dead:
The most important question is what is the mileage on the Jeep and has it ever had a timing belt replacement before. If you do not know if it has been replaced before, ie service records or by talking to previous owners, then you need to have the timing belt job done ASAP. Some advise to just park it till this can take place. If the belt breaks or strips the teeth; this is an interference engine and it will damage the rockers and maybe more if it fails... Also, be sure and replace the water pump at the same time you are doing the timing belt and all the pullies.
If you are mechanically inclined, you can replace the timing belt yourself, there are several good guides available on how to do one and the necessary tools are available for rental. If you prefer not to do it yourself, there are some on this list that will come and do it for you, geordi being one, he has done more that anyone else...

Read the NOOB guide, lots of good information and learning at:

WWDiesel Thanks for all the info.

I am mechanically inclined. I've been in the automotive industry for over 22 years, worked as a technician at a Chy/Jeep/Eagle dealership from 1992-2001. Currently a Automotive Trainer/Field Service Rep for a major parts supplier.

I'm on the waiting list for tools from two members..thinking I may have to buy the tools soon. The kit is available from eBay for like $50 and the cam sprocket tool from Gates is like $170.

I have ordered the TB kit from IdParts, including the trans fluid change kit, the Mann filter kit (air, oil & fuel), wiper blade package and the oil change kit with Liqui Moly oil. Then I ordered redline synthetic fluids for the differentials.

Now, need to get it up on a lift to check ball joints, axle shafts and driveshafts.

Thanks again!

Real important to get that oil out of the intake from the CCV if the EGR has not been disabled. If it is not disabled, the EGR, unplug the MAF sensor on the airbox, it will trip a DTC, but the only thing it controls is the EGR valve. Leave it unplugged until you can get a tune that will disable the EGR system.
Order yourself a ProVent filter assembly from Mann; that will get the oil out of intake!
The oil mixing with the carbon coming from EGR makes for one terrible mess of goo buildup in the intake. There are many testimonies on this forum about the problems and wear it creates..
