Hello everyone. My daughter just bought a 2005 Liberty CRD. I want to look out for her, so I decided to do some research (I'm an engineer) on this thing. She lives in Kentucky and I live in Indiana, so access time will be limited. It has about 185k miles on it so I would like to know what important maintenance should be done soon. What is the lifespan of the timing belt? Should the turbo be checked/serviced. I did post a question on the DIY ECU Flash page about disabling the EGR. How important is that to the durability and fuel economy of this engine? I guess I want to learn all I can about the CRD. Any help or information would be appreciated. |

You should post this in the CRD love that torque section. Timing belt is good for 100k miles. Assuming that your t belt has already been changed once (I hope), its almost time for another. Start making plans for another timing belt change. The turbo can be easily checked by removing the turbo inlet hose. Just stick your fingers in there and try to wiggle the shaft. There should only be a tiny amount of movement. When you do this, you will also likely find that the turbo inlet hose needs replacement. Search the Love that Torque section. Common problems include: EGR valve Crankcase vent (CCV) Worn out rocker arms Head gasket + head bolts/ARP studs |
