Anyone hear of the claims from Chrysler that on the 06 and up Libertys computers were shorting out because of the trailer wiring harness? Chrysler revised their own trailer harness design to take care of this problem from what I was told. I am in the market to wire mine up since it didn't come with the tow package. I normally wire up my own lights but was advised by a close friend and dealership ASE Master Technician not to! The current harness for the 06 ( maybe 05 also don't remember) and up is actually 2 harnesses if you don't have a tow package. 1 harness for up front that runs back to the right rear then another harness from the right rear to the hitch. I have been shopping harnesses for the past week straight and am not impressed with any after market set up, they all seem poorly constructed and cheap Chinese knock off's without the proper fusing or relays. I bit the bullet and paid vendor cost for the harnesses

There aren't any current technical bulletins on that from Chrysler. The PCM and the rear lights don't share any common grounds. If you were to do some bad wiring and short it out, worse that would happen is you pop a fuse. Just get a trailer wiring kit, you unplug one part of the lights wiring harness in the rear of the jeep, plug the kit in, and pull it out a grommet underneath the jeep. super easy.

Oh I am aware of shorting out lights I have already installed the entire MOPAR wring harness that consist of a front "complimentary harness" and the rear harness (that you mentioned) if you decide to run a 7 prong outlet and don't already have a overhead counsel or the tow package installed from the factory. From what I was told you don't need the front harness if your going to just run a 4 prong setup, regaurdless of how it was equiped from the factory.
