so I bought a Kicker l7, 2006 15" subwoofer and was wondering what you guys would recommend for an Amp? I am on a limited budget so I can not afford a JL amp. I was thinking about the mono channel kicker zx1000 which costs about 400 on ebay....let me know what you think I should get

Thanks

What sort of performance are you looking for? Are you set on getting a 1000W amp, or are you looking for the highest power-per-dollar rate without cheaping out too much?

Rockford Fosgate has a 1000W amp that sells for about $350 on eBay
Legacy sells one for about $100
Phoenix for around $120
Kenwood for $150
Pyramid for $100
Lanzar for $120

Lots of different brands, most I've never heard of (from that list, I've only heard of RF and Kenwood)

I'm noticing now that there's no way to objectively compare amps on sound quality or even power rating. Amps that say "1000W" could mean RMS, could mean 2 channels total, or at 1Ohm, 2Ohm, 4Ohm.

For example, the Rockford Fosgate I found for $350 is called "1000W" but that is peak, and at 1Ohm. The Rockford Fosgate 1000W listed on crutchfield.com is 1000W RMS at 4Ohm, and 3000W RMS at 1Ohm. But that one costs $2000.

The kicker you mentioned is 1000W peak at 2Ohm.

What is the load of your sub?

I love RF! Im working on 2 years with my RF Punch P1 Subs and P3002 Punch Amp. The one thing I love about RF is that they give you the numbers of what their Amps will put out. They dont BS. RF will have my business for life.

Are you going to go with a sealed box or ported?

the sub i got is rated 1000 watts rms, 2000 watts peak
its a square and 15" and brings me to my next question. I cant realy find a box that fits it well. The ones on ebay are too small. Id like to go with a ported but it needs to be at least 3 cubic feet but the biggest ive seen is 2.5

Talk to your local audio shop. Im sure that they could build you a box to fit your specs just perfectly.

The Alpine MRD-M1000 is 1000 RMS @ 2 Ohms 1800 peak. This is a good amp, I use one in my setup.

If your sub is 2ohm go with the 1200.1

Before you make your purchase let me know what one you want. I might be able to get you a better deal with some of my sponsorships.

PM me when you know what one you want

All of Alpine's amps have a CEA power rating, they also clearly list under what conditions the tests took place:

Quote:
On May 28, 2003, the Consumer Electronics Association published standard CEA-2006, "Testing & Measurement Methods for Mobile Audio Amplifiers." This "voluntary" standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power and signal-to-noise ratio. Using 14.4 volts, RMS watts are measured into a 4-ohm impedance load at 1 percent Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) plus noise, at a frequency range (for general purpose amplifiers) of 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. This applies to both external amplifiers and the amplifiers within in-dash receivers.

CEA-2006 allows consumers to be able to compare car amplifiers and receivers on an equal basis. Manufacturers who choose to abide by the new standard are able to stamp their products with the CEA-2006 logo that reads: "Amp Power Standard CEA-2006 Compliant."
