LOST JEEPS :: View topic - CB mount point

I have the Cobra 75W which is a completely hand-held CB. No box. Makes life very simple for installing and mounting.

I will probably be getting the Cobra, since my current one is pretty much fried. As far as mounting it under the climate control, it would depend on how small it is and how far you want it to stick out, since there's no room behind it. I've also looked at mounting it on the passenger side of the shifter/center console. It would be close enough to easily get to and not be in the way of any passengers. As soon as I have some pics, I'll post them.

No need to drill any holes. If you pull off the end cap on the passenger end of the dash (where the fusebox would be on a right hand drive KJ) there's plenty of room for the box.

same here. nice unit but is anyone else have interference (engine noise) problems with it?

i have run an extra ground, wired the power directly to the battery and even put a ferrite choke core on the coax but i still get some engine noise

Right now I just have a radioshack cheapie in there but I found a Cobra that will fit that I"m going to replace it with soon.

Won't the subwoofer rattle the "teeth" out of the connectin box?

As soon as I have some pics, I'll post them. I'm going to remove the center console (any day now, when the trim sticks arrive) and mount the antenna unit inside the console if there is room. I'll drill a hole on the side for the mic hookup from the transmitter, and that should take care of hiding the floor unit and all wiring. Right now the floor unit is just sitting next to the passenger seat in the space between the seat and the console ... it's kind of out of the way, but could be better. I thought about putting it in the console box, but then that doesn't leave much room for anything else.

No need to drill any holes. If you pull off the end cap on the passenger end of the dash (where the fusebox would be on a right hand drive KJ) there's plenty of room for the box. There are even two screws in there you can use for mounting it. Take one of the screws all the way out and put it through the slot in the CB box. The other screw doesn't reach the hole, but if you loosen it the edge of the mounting lip will slide right under the edge of the screw and it won't move once you retighten the screw.

I just ran across the Cobra 75wxst at Amazon.com and thought it looked like a good alternative to the typical box shaped CB unit. I found THIS article about how easy the install was on both an XJ and a TJ. Tokyojoe, have you had similar engine noise issues with the Cobra 75wxst like kevh has? Where exactly did you guys (or anyone else who owns this CB unit) install the smaller dash-mount box for the Cobra 75wxst on your KJs? Thanks!! - Trooper: KJ "PRE-Newbie"

mine is mounted behind the kick panel (by your feet) on the drivers side (where the hood pull is) there is plenty of room and a nice grounding plate right there. also makes it easy to run your coax along the doors and back to the rear glass to get it to the antenna

No noises or problems and I used it in Moab and up in the Rockies. It is a great CB. See my write-up on the CB install along with my antenna install. A perfect place for that little box is under the steering wheel where that cover pops down (see pictures on my site). http://www.cardomain.com/ride/718416

Nice write up on the install there TokyoJoe! hoss75, that's... well... creative! I especially like the mic cord running through the parking brake slot! Thanks for the pics!! I see you have some ahem Contraband stashed in your center console as well. I am most likely going to purchase the Cobra 75wxst and mount it so that the mic can be easily used by both the driver and the front passenger. My 75WX sounds clear, no interference. Add a fuse for power Ground is on an existing hole behind the panel below the steering wheel David was talking about. I put the connection box on top of the subwoofer under the drivers seat. No loop from the cord to get tangled and didn't have to run the antenna cable as far.

If you need/want different pictures, just ask away! I'm sure myself and others would jump on any reason to share pictures.

I use the cobra 75; It's ok --- I use a bungee cord system that basically has one across the backseat hand rails, and another one attached to the center of that, running up to a d-ring attached to a piece of the sunroof. It's pretty lame, but I drilled no holes. I've also got an external speaker on the rear bungee cord. My little box is in the front passenger-side panel. The 18' antenna barely, just barely, reaches.
