Post subject:  European coded headlights
Does anyboy know where I can get a set of H4 e-coded headlights for the Liberty. I been to one site in the UK but for the price, I would rather buy a set of BMW M3 xenon projectors and retrofit them.

dont have a clue what your are talking about. But since you mentioned the BMW lights I think you want H.I.D fog lights. two options come to my mind...

1) get an H3 fog light tat will fit, and get a H.I.D conversion kit. The kit should be cheap, becasue most rice rockets have H3 type sockets.

2) Buy a set of H.I.D fog lights that will fit. PIAA, Hella and others make HID lights, but are almost 2x the price as a generic fog light/HID retro fit kit.

The OEM BMW idea, I think would be a pain. I doubt the ballasts for each bulb are as simple to hook up as the aftermarket ones. And again, even used ones will cost about the same as an aftermarket kit. I would check prices for you but my work blocked E-Bay. darn proxy servers.

I think what he is talking about (and feel free to correct me) is that the lights that are designed to go into the European-spec vehicles a) are designed to use H4 bulbs instead of the types that are common in the U.S. which leads to b) better cut-off with low beams and more light with high-beams; there may also be some differences in the lens that help this. Having owned a BMW motorcycle I can say that it did have better lighting than the others I had owned (Yamaha and Honda). I have thought along the lines of getting euro-spec lights myself, they would just need to be for one of the countries that drive on the right side of the road (Germany is the main one I can think of).

I hope he is looking for projector headlights and found them! Projector headlights are the ones that have lenses and they are perfect for HID retrofit.

corwyyn, is right. What I am looking for is a set of Liberty Headlights which come from either Germany or Italy designed for left hand drive cars that use a H4 type bulbs instead of 9007. I had a set of European coded spec type headlights in my Jetta, and they are night and day from the US DOT headlights. I am going to contact a friend of mine in Italy where I was stationed, and see if its possible to get them, how much for shipping also.

Endurance, I been looking for projector type headlights also. Can't find them either. I did a retrofit on the Jetta with BMW M3 bi-xenon projectors (high and low beams) and I must say, its hard to drive the liberty at night since I drive the jetta with HID projectors. I might be planning a retrofit on the liberty when I get some money, time, and a new set of projectors.
I enclosed a picture of the work that I had done. Not the best retro but it works.

Oops, double post :oops: The boards been kinda slow and flaky this morning...

Let me know what you find out about those e-code lights; might have to get a set myself if they aren't too pricey.

Sure how many do you want? I am going to do the same conversion. As well as a few other e-spec conversions. I run e-spec lights in my Focus Race car and in my 92 Geo Tracker. They should be cheaper at the Hella dealer where I got the Tracker rear tails.

well I have a UK European Headlights with the H4 bulb and let me tell you the lights are CRAP awful rubbish don't waste your money.

I am serious thinking about fitting a HID conversion Kit from autobulbsdirect.

9/10 times the US DOT spec lighting is worse than the TUV spec "e-code" European lighting.

If you find a price let me know as I'd like a set too!

Sorry guys and gals I have been out and about but not to the Jeep dealer. I will try and get on this asap. Remember UK and any country that was a british commonwealth , i.e. RHD headlamps will bolt on to our vehicles but will blind oncoming traffic. You must order LHD specific headlamps. I have been this route many times with many US spec cars.

Would depend on how the reflector and lens are designed. If the only thing they did to the assemblies is to change the bulb opening for the H4's then it might be doable, but I have a suspicion that it involves more than that, particularly if they changed the lens. Could you compare these to yours and let me know what differences you have, or better yet post some pictures of your units? That would be very helpful in figuring out just how different they might be.

No the reflector in a RHD housing puts the light in the wrong place for LHD countries, ie the light would blind on comming drivers. Anyone considering this swap should make sure to get the lights which were designed for LHD or RHD which ever is correct for your local.

RHD European is the reverse, the angle up is to the left not the right as seen in the LHD picture above.

well guys let me ask you this. When we here in the UK are driving on our side of the road our lights are set up for that. BUT when we take our motors over to Mainland Europe i.e. France Holland Italy etc etc we get our headlights re aligned so that we can drive on there side of the road whithout blinding anyone. Or if your a real cheap skate you buy a sticker to put on the lens to divert the beam.

Yes they do look different to your first picture Appears to be a lot more lines.

BUT they look exact same as your second picture. :?:

Think I will take some pics of my lights and compare like for like although I do now have the hids conversion done. :D
