Post subject:  Cheap Aux input ($20)

I just helped a friend of mine install this in his car:

http://www.shop4tech.com/?go=view_item&id=3992&r=274

It's an FM Modulator that plugs inline with your antenna input. It does the same thing as an FM transmitter does, but it's hard-wired. Audio quality is nearly indistinguishable from CD. The box comes with a switch you can mount on the dash to turn it on and off (since turning it on introduces some static to radio reception). Audio input is in the form of 2 RCA cables, but it comes with a 2-RCA to 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo headphone plug (male) for use on portable music players.

Just wanted to recommend that product to anybody looking for a cheap way to get aux audio in without an FM transmitter or tape adapter.

Awesome! That's exactly what I was looking for. I'm using my stock deck for the time being since I spent all my play money on subs. I'm going to get one of those and mount the 1/8" jack inside the console storage slot under the climate control. Thanks!

Does something like this still require a frequency setting to not have anything on it (outside of the Ipod?)

I have a modulator and it's not powerfull enough to over come even a weak radio station signal so I get pretty horrible playback. I'm thinking about going this route now: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-YNzM87Io82 ... 1DFCHR#Tab

I have that one. It works great for my mp3 player! Install took ~ 1 hour because I wanted to mount it way up in the corner of the passenger's foot space, under the glove box. There's got to be a better place to mount it than there.
