Brake controller ?

I'm getting Tekonsha Prodigy controller. I have the tow package on my KJ. My son built me a 6x10 trailer in shop last year. I ordered the axle kit with electric brakes & breakaway kit. My questions to anyone who has done this before are;
1. When I order the Tekonsha controller it comes with a choice of harnesess (direct plug), Which one do I order, the Dodge 96-05, or the generic one?
2. Does the KJ use the direct plug harness Tekonsha offers since it came with the tow package or do I just have to wire it in?

Thats a good brake controller. That's what I have. You will need the universal connector that you wire in. Wen you get the stuff to do it, let me know if you need some help. :wink:

I just bought some wire and added it to the controller (Same Tekonsha) and wired it into the points I found for other Jeep/Chrysler. Took about 15 minutes to install not including time to solder the extension wires in. Also on the 02s the dash pannel doesn't flip down so it was tricky wiring the brake light wire. Other than that cake. Also don't forget a braker =).

Help Edwin & barto anyone!!

I got my Tekonsha Prodigy. I have the tow package. There should be a 12 or 14 gauge blue wire under my dash which goes back to the rear trailer brake plug. does anyone know where it's at under the dash????

I found the brake switch, it has six wires in the plug/switch. The instructions say to hook the red wire off the brake controller to the cold side of the brake switch, (voltage only when pedel is pushed). when the pedel is pushed, two of the wires are energized, the white w/Brn tracer and the white w/red tracer, so which one of these should I use?? Which one is the cold side (have'nt herd that before "cold side")

Hope everyone isn't out wheelin, I'm on call this weekend so I'm kinda stuck here, great time to mod.

I'm not sure about the brake switch wire, but the wire to the trailer plug is behind the white plastic cover that is behind the trim panel by the driver's left foot. Some poeple have reported the wire being a color other than blue, but it should be the only loose wire under there.

I finally broke down and called Teknonsha and asked them; What do you mean in your directions, "Stoplight switch- Connect to cold side (voltage only when pedel is pushed)" The reference "cold side" was throwing me. I told her that I had an 03 Liberty, she said connect it to the white w/tan tracer in the brake switch. I said, kool, thanks for the help,,,,, Anyways, since I've got that figured out, I have another question about the how the rear trailer brake connecter is wired.

My KJ came with the tow package, so it came with the trailer plug at the hitch. The trailer plug on my KJ has six male tangs & one in the middle. With my KJ I got a 7 to 4 wire reducer plug. Do I have to buy a different male plug (7 to 5 adapter) to add the blue trailer brake wire in?? Or can I use the 7 to 4 adapter I think I'm missing something( in my mind) please someone shed me the light!! Iguess my question is if i use the supplied 7 to 4 wire adapeter, where do I connect the blue trailer brake to? Man I know how to ramble.

1. Under the dash where, did you connect the blue wire to?
2. The adapter is for pulling trailers that only have lights, no brakes.

You would probably be better off with putting the 7 RV plug on the trailer. That's the way mine is done. Does yor triler have a 5 plug on it?

Thanks Edwin, my trailer kit came with the regular 4 wire plug which is just for lights.

They should of sent me the 5 or 7 plug, or stuck a flyer in the directions. I believe thats the answer I was looking for. I need the 7 wire RV plug. I brought it to the board in hopes that someone else had run into this before. The reason I'm asking so many questions is because my son built this 6x8 trailer in shop class at HS. I ordered the axle kit with brakes, and I had to wire them up. Thanks to all.

The 7 plug should have instructions on whtto hook where. Holler back if you need more help.

I had looked for it at Northern, they have a pretty big trailer department. I saw the small round five plug, but didn't see the big plastic 7 wire RV plug. I'll shop around. I didn't even think to check my RV parts place out :idea:

I'm trying to wire one of those brake controllers up to my 04 Liberty Sport. It has the Mopar class 3 hitch & suitable wiring for an electric brake.

I can't find that "loose wire" beneath the carpet. It appears that the trailer brake wiring goes straight to a Mopar connector for use with a Mopar brake controller. I'll trace the wiring tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.

... mango ridge, I find that tractor supply has a great selection of trailer harness plugs.... too many, I had a heck of a time figuring out what I needed for my trailer.... when I got there to pick it up, it turned out that the guy didn't even know that he had a 4 pin connector on the thing! LOL!!!
