I have some Hellas laying around the garage, and I was thinking about puting them on the front bumper this weekend. I was hoping to install them on the same circuit that the factory fog lights are on, this way i can save a butt load of time and effort. Question is, has anyone done it this way? Does anyone know how much current the factory ones pull and what the fuse is rated? more worried about blowing the fuse than anything. |

LEGAL DISCLAIMER: I am in many ways an iconoclast who at times refuses to follow popular and/or sensible methods to accomplish tasks. If you still wish to have my input, read on Well, if the Hellas are fogs and you have factory fogs already installed this is what I would do: mount the Hellas on the bumper, then run the wire that senses current for the relay to the power wire for the factory units, then run the main power for the Hellas off of one of the connections in the engine fuse/relay box. That way the Hellas would turn on whenever your factory fogs come on without adding load to the factory wiring. If you don't have factory fogs then I'm not sure how to accomplish it since the nescessary wiring harness isn't pre-installed (I don't think it is, anyway). If the above is confusing drop me a note and I'll see about putting together a diagram. |

I would agree with what corwyyn said. Run the "signal" wire from the light relay to the pos (+) lead from one of the foglights and then get power for the new lights from the battery fuse block. I wouldn't power the new lights directly from the foglight wiring unless you plan to replace the foglights with new ones. As I recall, the wiring for the factory fogs is kind of small gauge and it wouldn't be a good idea to run two sets off of it. If the new lights are just laying around your garage, you will need to go out and buy a relay. I basically did the same thing that you are planning to do, but instead having the lights come on with the fogs, mine come on with the brights. I think my foglights do a fine job as they are, but the high beams are lacking....so I tapped the relay into the highbeam lead. Now my brights are more the way that they should be. That's something else you want to consider...If the Hellas you are putting on are "driving lights", you won't be able to use them when there is on-coming traffic. They will blind people! If you wire them in with your foglights, you'll have to turn your fog lights on and off constantly on the highway. Good luck. |
