| Post subject: | HELP! Sirius lost signal and can't get it back |
I was driving across NJ saturday along Rt 80 coming home from skiing and I lost my Sirius reception. At first I assumed it was the mountains, as usual. But it never came back. Sunday I called Sirius and they gave me a bunch of wacky instructions "turn off key, open door for x seconds, then close door, then turn on key, then turn on radio." This was supposed to reset the unit. Then they tried to send a new signal to me. that failed 3 times. My head unit (RB1) always just says "NO SIGNAL". The odd thing is that the head unit, while set on SAT, loses the PTY and SET display. The only way I can get them back is to pop out the NAV DVD, and reinsert it to reset the NAV. Then the SAT display is complete and normal again until I touch anything (channel button or preset buttons). Then those displays go away. So I just pulled the rear cargo area apart to check the antenna connections. All wires are just as they were when I installed them. I don't have a spare antenna to try, but that's next I guess. I also disconnected the battery for about 20 minutes in a feable attempt to reset whatever was wrong. Nothing. I called Alpine and they said it sounds like the Sirius receiver is bad because the head unit says "NO SIGNAL". Then I described some more of the symptoms above, then he said to take it to the dealer! Argh! Sirius said that too. I hate those cop-out answers. Dealer didn't install it in the first place nor do I think they even do their own repair work (just swap out new units). I'm out of warranty. Anyone with more Sirius experience PLEASE HELP!!! PS Everything else works, including NAV. Here's the screen:

Wow. I know I haven't been around much lately, but this silent treatment thing really hurts! Well, I'll tell you the outcome anyway. If it falls on deaf ears, so be it. We all know that tree in the forest makes noise on its way down even if no one's around to hear it. Right? It was the antenna wire. It somehow began to pull out at the tail, exposing some of the inners and I assume moisture got into the wire and shorted it out. There. Now you know! |

yup, we're doing the brand new Jamboree at killington, VT! Should be fun. And now both my sons go with me. The 3 year old is more into it than the 7 year old I think. I also MIGHT hit the Pagaron run since it's not at Paragon (they lost their land). so it'll be somewhere else. I've never done the same location twice yet. I just hate HATE that they make all the Jams in the northeast so close together! (All except for the Catskills one which is nearly always during the Jewish holidays. Also ironic, since that area is the Borscht belt, Catskills!) |

Well actually sound is a percept. The tree does not make a sound if no ears are around to hear it because the ears receive those silent vibrations in the air and convert them into a signal your brain translates into sound as we know it. So if there are no ears (or no one) around to hear it... the tree falls depressingly silent to the ground. poor tree... ok... I'll shut up and goto bed... |
