EVIC issues, where do I get this??

Hello,

Ive read the article about how to install an EVIC, and it seems pretty straight forward, BUT lo and behold when I get my EVIC from eBay, look at what is missing

Now what do I do? I have an OTIS, but the plugs are incompatible. HELP?

Contact jparts.com and see what they can quote you on a plug that would fit into that...or check out your local junk yard for any KJs that have expired that might contain an EVIC...

go to a junk yard and get one out of any model that has an evic, or I heard you can make your own out of a floppy drive connector, or solder wires onto each pin seperately

This really sucks. I know it has to be a common plug. If anyone knows where I can go to get one now that would be great, or at least where I can find it (ie radio shack). I have a feeling the stealership would charge me a fortune for it, considering they have NEVER heard of installing an EVIC into one that doesnt have it previously.

I contacted them but they are closed. We will see tomorrow

Interesting. I understand the concept of soldering each wire, but the possibility of a short makes me hesitate. What is this floppy drive business?

I just got done doing all the things you're about to do. Mine came with the pigtail though. Here is a floppy power adapter:

If you modify it a little bit its supposed to fit.

Just to make sure, did you buy the plastic retainer that holds the EVIC attached to the roof (part#5072348-AA)? Let me know if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help you out. I just went through this entire process and I had to learn some things the hard way. DO NOT start if you dont have all the tools and instructions.

Thanks! Yes, I am concerned about the cable. I was also told that an 04 EVIC will not work with an 03? Anyone know why this would be?????

I used to know this, not really sure, but I think the 04 evics only work on 04 and up vehicles. And which features will then work depends on the vehicle/year.

I believe you won't get a temp reading...something about jeep changing which computer handles the data from the temp sensor starting with '04. You are actually in an enviable position in a way, the '04 evics are the best/only option for people who want tpms to work in 04+ KJs. So you wouldn't have any problem finding takers if you found an evic that will work better for you. And i believe if you find the right evic from an '02, you can get the temp to to work, tpms and instant mpg. Necessary...probably not...but its just another thing to play with.

The first evic i found did not come with a pigtail, so i used a floppy connector. i had to shave off some of the bottom to make it flat, and then the tabs along the sides to make it fit horizontally. Not too hard with a good exacto knife. I found a better evic with a pigtail not too long after, so i really didn't get to test it out beyond making sure the connector fit.

A different temperature sensor was introduced in 2004. It seems as though 2002-2003 EVICs are interchangeable, 2004 EVICs aren't interchangeable, and 2005-2007 EVICs are interchangeable. Check out this page in the Jeep Liberty Wikibook:

UPDATE

I traded the 04 EVIC on an 02 just to make sure. It works awesome! Looks good too. Took me about three hours to get everything together and installed. Pretty easy install. The only thing I would suggest is definitely have a metal coathanger with you when you run the wires...priceless. Right tool!

Also, the purple wire to the rear defroster is an ideal power source. Close to the Date Link, and easy to get to.

The only problem I have is that now I need a temp sensor, but I have an 02 EVIC from a GC into my 03 Lib. So, when I go to the dealer, do I order one for an 02 or 03?????
