Got my Cobra 18 WXST installed yesterday along with the 4' Firestik antenna. Sadly I have no pics of the setup to post yet but will give you a synopsis of what occurred.

My buddy and I found a grommet that is just above the tailpipe and into the vehicle and poked a little hole in it and that is where I ran the coax wire from the custom antenna mount to the CB. The antenna is mounted just in front of the passnger side tail-light. I ran the cable behind the bumper and through the grommet and then along the passenger side trim all the way to under the front passenger seat and into the CB radio itself. The Radio is mounted to the middle console with no screws but just simply an aluminum bracket I made and then stuffed under the plastic trim. Once that was done we soldered the connecting end onto the coax cable and screwed it onto the back of the CB. while my friend soldered i took off the front of the dash, which was super easy with just the one screw and then popping all the clips out. We then cleaned a little bit of section off the cables that run to the cigarette lighter of their protective rubber coating and wrapped the radios wires around it and the ground connection and then wrapped those connections with electrical tape to cover up any exposed wire. Once that was done dash was replaced and the cables were hidden under the center console. I also had made sure to wire the CB appropriately so that it could be stored under the passenger seat if need be. So now the CB is installed and functioning properly after hooking the battery back up. Then I went and installed my external speaker which fit PERFECTLY next to the steering column behind the little flap of plastic trim that folds down, couldn't have been more pleased with that fit.

Pictures will be coming tomorrow so don't fret. It was a clean install and nothing got broken or damaged that I can see for now. While we were at it we also figured out where and how to apply my future dual battery hook-up under the engine for use with my future Engel fridge and power invertor for the laptop and whatever else I may need it for. Roof light install will be coming late May or early June. Be on the look out!!!

-Scott

Well I finally got around to getting some pics of my setup, if you'd like more detailed pics feel free to ask and I can snap some more.

Antenna mount is on/in/around the passenger side tail-light...
Image

Here is the CB where it will sit while in use, there is about a 7" piece of aluminum 1/4"x1" stock that I bent to slide under the center console to hold the CB in place while also using the seat rail to hold it in place. I also put this rubber grip stuff on the piece of aluminum that helps squeeze the CB against the center console to secure it. There is no wobble or unsteadyness with the CB in this position, plus I can still read all the dials and settings from the driver's seat. When I need to broadcast the mic will be placed in a different position but for now it stays attached there to the glove box.
Image

I had an 18' coax cable so the excess wire that I didn't need to use I zip tied to the passenger seat computer.
Image

Now underneath the steering wheel we all now about that little drop down panel. Well I had an external speaker to mount and it fit perfectly next to the steering column behind this little panel.

How did you attach the bracket for the antenna?

2 sheet metal screws into the body...then the edge of the tailight pushes against the bracket as well and it holds like a charm...

Looks nice Scott. That first picture makes your KJ look white. Isn't it silver?

your suppose to randomly stuff excess coax as opposed to coiling it up like that, it interferes with the signal

One thing I am wondering about. If something catches on the mount will it jerk out, smash, your tail light lens?

Well I won't lie, the potential is there for something like that to happen. BUT with the mount not even sticking farther out then the fender flares I hope that I won't be so close to something that that could occur. The main thing I'd be worried about is just the antenna getting ripped off or damaged by tree limbs on osme of the tight trails that I have frequented the times I've gone off-road. But we'll see what happens when i finally get the whole system on the trail for a run. I'll be sure to let you guys know how she does...
