| Post subject: | USB input with receiver |
i was wondering if i will be able to hook my ipod usb to ipod connector into a usb port on a new in dash receiver (deck lid)? at best buy, they told me that i had to buy a thing that plugs into the usb in the receiver on the front of the face plate, and then hooks my ipod into it. the reason i am asking is that i think with the usb input in the receiver, the ipod will be able to be charge while playing. any helps would be awesome! |

what model head unit are you looking at. I have a Kenwood unit, the USB is accessed through a usb cable to the back, but I have no problem running my Ipod through it. |

If you want a new deck and you have an iPod, why not buy one with specific iPod controls built in? |

generally they come with a port you can hook up the wire to, one end to HU other end to iPod, pull it to glovebox. I would hate to be limited to ipod connector, though. GO with something that offers iPod and USB with controllable playback. |

I know Sony makes some models with a USB port right on the face of the unit. One of the salesmen stuck a thumb-drive in it and it read the music off the drive. You should have no problems with an iPod with one of these. Not to mention you have one less cable to play with or worry about snagging. |

Go with a connection in the back, front loads will always look bad with a stick sticking out (not to mention potential breakage) rear connection, you can just tug it in the glovebox |
