Post subject:  Interior Lights Keep Coming ON
When driving, lights on or off, the interior light in my 02 Liberty comes on for a minute (or more) then
goes off.

What can I do to stop this? It is quite annoying.

You may have a bad(short somewhere) in the light switch,there fairly cheap and easy to replace or you could have a bad(again shorting) door latch mechanism just finding what one is the hard part(the rear flipper glass has a switch to).

For intermitted problems like these there is really no way to test for it since it happens while driving,pretty hard to test wires while driving(really hard for the door latches).You can look at the lght switch and door latches(some disassembly required) and look for corrsion and signs of shorted wires and/or extremly worn parts.I can't recommend anything but that sorry.If it was me I would just bite the bullit and buy all new switches and latches,but that's me.I hate trouble shoot electrical items due to I always seem to get shocked(must be my electrifing personatity :lol: ).Best of luck,those type of problems are a bear no matter what anybody say's.

I had an 02 that had a problem like that. But, it would do it when the thing was setting locked up at night. Then the AC went out. Took it to the dealer and they said the main harness was about ready to fry. As in flames! They replace the harness and lucky me it was under warranty.

darn.
I work at a Toyota plant, and a darn harness is really expensive, even for the plant!
I will check into that though.

Mine does that/still does. Never had a problem with it other than it running the battery down.. Done it twice now.

You could install jumpers at each door just before the switch, one at a time. Jump out the switch so that the light is off even with the door open. Drive around awhile. If the problem continues leave that jumper installed and go to the next door. When the problem stops, and the lights stay out, you've found the door with the bad switch.

If you get lucky, you'll hit it on the first try. I'd go with the driver's door first since that gets the most use. Of course if you jump out all the switches and it continues, it's something else but the jumper deal is relatively quick and easy to do. I like to use those little blue or red 3M crimpy things as jumpers. Then make a solid connection and when you remove them (carefully) the wire sheathing basically self heals itself. Just be careful to crimp them right and not cut the wire itself.

The other alternative is by one new switch and swap it from door to door but if that's not the problem, you just bought a switch. :cry:

Just to bad the switch is intergrated in the latches so you would need to buy all 4 latches and then the swinggate latch and rear glass latch,that's 6 different latches.

No wonder I couldn't find the light switch when I looked for it! :?
Can it still be jumped out?
