Post subject:  Fused Ignition Switch Output for EVIC, where to find?

I installed a EVIC a couple of weeks back, but only hooked up 3 wires: Ground, PCI Bus and Fused B+. Everything works but I have one little problem.
When I shut off my Jeep, the EVIC turns off as well but comes back on after 10 to 15 min, and stays on. I am assuming this is due to Fused Ignition wire I dont have hooked up.

Someone told me that there is a fuse slot in the driver side fuse panel I can use. Which one would that be?

Thanks,
Daniel

Great work. BTW, do you mean your EVIC shows infomation even tho the blue/white wire is not spliced ???

this might help

Yes, like I said it works eventhough blue/white wire is not hooked up. You have two adapters hooked up in your fuse panel, which one should I use, what number is it?

Thanks,
Daniel

i'm using the fuse for the radio, #22. Should be the same because we both have '05's. But since you have a CRD double check that against the user manual. There are a couple of other fuses you can use, i have the power to my radar detector hard wired to the fuse box...sorry can't remember which fuse off the top of my head.

The EVIC works without the fused ignition wire. I hooked mine up but its still not shutting off. So when I turn off my Jeep the EVIC stays on 24/7.

I believe that's one of the purposes of the fused ignition wire, to tell the EVIC when the ignition is on/off and let the evic know when to shut off.

I installed my EVIC a while back. Works great. Used the radio for the switched ignition feed. Only one problem: when starting the jeep, if one of the doors other than the driver's door is open or the rear glass, it is displayed on the evic even after the door/glass is shut. Only way to get rid of it is to cycle the ignition. I am known to slip the tranny in neutral, turn off the engine while coasting, and restart the engine to clear the display...it bothers me that much!

It also does some other weird things. At first the auto door locks drove me bonkers, i live with it now b/c when i turn that function off via the evic, next time i start the jeep, it is re-enabled. When one of the doors are open, sometimes it displays the individual door, most of the time is shows the driver door (if the driver door is open) or all the passinger doors if one of them is opened. None of them are show stoppers, they just bug the hell out of me.

Didn't know if anyone else has experienced this. The evic is from an '01 Grand Cherokee (has instantaneous mpg!) and I have an early '03.

I wonder if your issues could have something to do with using an accessory switched source rather than an ignition. The radio switched source is usually an accessory, which means the 12 volts is removed from that wire during cranking of the starter. So essentially you are turning it on when you turn you key to the ignition/acc. position and then turning it back off when you crank, then on again when you stop cranking. An ignition source will stay at 12 volts while you crank the starter.

This is just a thought. If you have sometime one day, try hooking it up to an ignition source rather than accessory.
