Post subject:  Suction cup CB mount?

Today, I dug out an old Cobra CB from my shop and cleaned it off. I took it out to the KJ and searched for a place to mount it. Nothing seemed to work out.

I recalled seeing a suction cup mount for a GPS unit and hit Google. I came up with this site and found what I was looking for.

http://www.ram-mount.com/mount/double_suction_mount.htm

I've emailed them asking if it will hold the weight and am awaiting a response. I just thought I'd ask if any of y'all had any experience with this type of mount. My plan is to attatch it to the base of the windshield just above the center of the dash to mount a small Cobra 19DX.

RAM-- they make the best stuff I have seen. I have one for a GPS. It says that suction cup will hold up to 15 pounds and I am sure of it. (The GPS is only a handheld so that outta do it).

The suction cup has a nifty lock on it. The lock keeps the seal from being broken. When that sucker is locked-- it ain't moving. You would probably crack the windshield before you would get it off.

The only thing I have noticed is that if you leave it on for a long time, and it gets hot out after you put it on, the suction can get weaker. To fix it, just unlock it, break the seal and reattach.

Best stuff on that site.

Thanks for the feedback tocayo. I'll be placing my order later today. This will allow me to put the CB right where I want it without putting holes in my new Jeep.

I was looking at the one they show for a cup holder, too. It would be nice to have an extra cup holder up front.

It worked out real well.

I may even break down and get a small one for the cell phone.

Did the RAM system work out for you? If so what components did you end up going with?

The mount is the RAM model RAP-B-166U. I got it through:

http://www.gomobilenow.com/

The letter "B" in the model number denotes a 1" ball which is rated up to 5 pounds. They do make larger ball mounts for heavier items.

My CB only weighs 1.5 pounds so I didn't see the need for a larger plate.

The mount came complete, as shown in the pic. It is working out quite well.
