| Post subject: | wired fm modulator |
ok, so this isnt a jeep question, but i'll ask it here anyway. I installed a wired FM modulator in my fiance's car a while back. It seems to work great with one issues: The stereo seems to go in and out. I think it has something to do with the music too, not a loose connection or something. Some albums will be in stereo the whole time, others will be in mono the whole time and some will go back and forth rapidly (which is really annoying). The modulator is this one: http://www.amazon.com/SoundKase-FMMOD01-Univ-Fm-Modulator/dp/B0007THIDQ/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-3918544-2449704?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1187211278&sr=8-1 Its a 97 Ford Escort, with I think a Kenwood head unit. I wired the power for the modulator into the power for the head unit, just spliced it in. Any idea what might be causing this? I'm no audiophile or electrician and some of you guys that post in this electronics section seem to really know your shizz. So any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

To me, it sounds like a short in the RCA connections. Most of the RCA wires on those RF mods are really low quality. I have had to cut the ends of them off before and splice new ones on. It could be several other things though, like the RF mod itself going bad or could it be your source. What is your source for the FM mod? MP3? DVD? turn table? |

The source is an ipod. Its not the problem cause I use it on other devices. The modulator has had the problem since day one. It seems like the RCA would not be problem cause it consistently does it on specific music. Thanks for your help, I'll keep troubleshooting |

You need to get antenna adapters. One that turns the car plug into an aftermarket to connect to the FM mod, and you will need an aftermarket to oe car plug. Metra is the most popular manufacturer. The thing is, you can get them at Best Buy or Circuit city with part numbers like 40CR10 and 40CR20, but you will pay $13 each for them. Or you can go to Autozone, O'Reilly, Advance, Pepboys, etc. and find the same thing for about $6 each. But the autoparts stores will probably use different part numbers than the electronics stores. But regardless of the part number, it should list the vehicle application like "2002 and up Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge" |
