 Post subject: Aftermarket head unit with infinity system

I have searched this board 3-4 times trying to find out if i can hook up a aftermarket head unit...i.e. dvd head unit to the factory infinity system?

That should be a piece of cake Grape. Just make sure you get the wire harness plug adapter from where ever you get your head unit. It will work.

JUst pulled the alpine out of my 2005 ram and plugged it in to the libby....no sound. So i guess there is something i am going to have to buy to make it work.

It won't work like that, you have to swap the cables on the harness, you have to power the premium sound system with current from the HU.
Possibly you other vehicle didn't have amps that needed to be powered.

What wires? What needs to be done?

look for an extra one or two wires on the factory harness. Those wires will need to be powered...one should be the "remote" power usually a blueish color and the other should be a battery power usually red or yellow...or it may have both a red and yellow. Disconnect the battery while you work on this.

generally they will state remote or antenna. Those HUs come with power output that is supposed to power the antenna to roll up, instead, you wire that to your power-in, on your jeep end. That will power in-door amps so you will get sound.

Even without that, you must be getting some sound in Radio, if you turn on Radio, see if you are getting some low-volume radio in fm mode..

Should have updated this awhile back. All i had to do was hook up the blue wires....i.e. remote turn on.
