Post subject:  12v 21W Bulb Replacement

Got my aftermarket taillights and they came with 12v 21W twist on bulbs instead of the stock wedge type bulbs.

They are bright, but they may go out soon, I plan to replace them with bright LEDs, but I am not sure what to get, or if there is even twist on at same wattage. I assume wattage should not be an issue as long as I get 12v?

don't know for sure on a KJ, but some cars can sense if a bulb goes out. for example on my audi, there was a light on the dash that would come on if a head light/tail light went out. I know that LED bulbs have a high resistance compared to incandescent bulbs. the higher resistance makes this vehicle think that the bulb is bad and it can trigger your indicator on the dash. some cars have turn signals that flash rapidly when bulb is out. the LED style bulbs can cause this to happen as well.

edit: i do see that lightlens has "load equalizers". I assume that they have something to do with what I was talking about.

No, KJ does not sense if the light is out. Older model Grand Cherokees had this, the ones with vehicle information center in front of the shift lever. I had light go out twice and no information.

I also noticed that the new lenses had one of the light connections unplugged, and that also caused it to blink rapidly.

I was not considering LED for blinker, but only for brake lamps, however they also have two stage, one for brake one for park lights.. so I am not sure if that'll work either with these twist ons.
