can you use a handheld cb like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Midland-75-822-Handheld-Vehicle-Adapter/dp/B00000K2YR/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/102-4751018-2172906?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1192034419&sr=8-3 with a firestik or other externally mounted antenna? |

They offer a mag-mount antenna as an accessory, so I would say 'yes'. You will need a BNC to PL-259 adapter, which is available at any Radio Hut for around $6. Thread it into the radio end of the coax and connect it to the radio, once you're tuned up you'll be ready to go. |

I have that very same radio and have it hooked to a mounted whip antenna mounted at the back of the jeep. You just screw your coax onto the connector (It looks just like the picture on Amazon). You don't need any kind of adapter to make it work. The antenna hookup on the top of the radio is only used if you don't use the car cigarette lighter plug that is included with the radio. I made a board with a cigarette lighter outlet and noise filter on it so that the end of the radio can go under the driver seat and plug in rather than have to plug into the dash. Then, there is a direct power lead (fused) from the fuse box running under the door jamb to the board under the seat. The end of the coax ends under the seat as well, so it's more like a wired-in install...and you don't have to cut off the cigarette lighter plug. I rest the radio itself on the console by the 4x4 gear shift boot. The radio has a belt loop hook on the back of it rather than a regular mic hook. By the way, I bought that same radio at Walmart for around the same price. Not sure if there is shipping on the Amazon deal. Just FYI. If you want pics, let me know. |
